... In a study published earlier this month in the journal Environmental Health Perspectives, Tasian and his collaborators reported that higher average daily temperatures increased the relative risk of forming kidney stones. The results indicate that the changing climate can directly affect human physiology.
"We were looking at what is the risk of a patient presenting with stones after daily temperatures rose," he said.
The researchers in this case looked at a database of insurance claims from 60,433 patients from Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas, Los Angeles and Philadelphia between 2005 and 2011. They assessed the relative risk of kidney stone formation compared to a base-line reference temperature of 10 degrees Celsius using weather data.
In addition, just as infections like dengue and Lyme disease creep northward as the climate warms, risk for kidney stones is increasing beyond the "stone belt" in the southeastern United States.

Therefore, there is a chance that anyone who has ever drank milk might be susceptible to a divorce........
Those are my findings and I stand by them......

OMG !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

G. Washington had kidney stones. What does that tell us? It was so much warmer then, it’s colder than that now?
Yes, but is it a “consensus”?
As Sneakypete would say... HORSE HILLARY... People migrate in large numbers & peoples habits change based on economics such as drinking bottled water etc. As for certain diseases like Lyme? Wildlife populations are growing by leaps and bounds especially deer. They are literally dwelling inside cities so are Yotes. You would think scientist would realize this. Deer & Yotes etc carry ticks. DUHHH Morons. What next Mosquitos? The coldest and furthest north state in the Union has always had them.
Rhubarb is rich in oxalates....the overabundance of oxalic acid in the leaves make them poisonous to most critters.
Another kidney stone source is calcium phosphate. The calcium is a "good guy" and comes from a variety of foods, especially dark green veggies (NOT including iceberg lettuce, which is free of most nutrients). But if you use a lot of dairy products and a lot of carbonated soft drinks, the phosphoric acid from the carbonated beverage combines with the excess calcium to form the nearly-insoluble calcium phosphate (looks like boiler scale) and it can precipitate out in your urine as a stone.
It happened to a close friend (he consumed a lot of milk and Pepsi colas). He had symptoms that match those of acute appendicitis and I rushed him to a hospital emergency room where they discovered and treated his passing kidney stone.
This was in the 60's and the they used to remove it gives me chills. Any male who's ever had a urinal catheter inserted would know.
It never STOPS!
Oh spare me. Maybe it’s the sugary crap everybody is drinking non-stop.
I love that one. LOL
More likely a result of people drinking more coffee and diet sodas.
Bad timing. NOAA just released a set of data from its new “pristine” temp collection sites that shows a downward trend in the U.S. over the last decade or so. The article was posted on FR just the other day.
I’m in Washington (state), home of Starbux and I had kidney stones taken out two years ago. Does latitude really have anything to do with it?
Soon they’ll be reporting new diseases from tens of thousands from 3rd world countries being seeded all over the U.S., will be attributed to global warming and lack of people signing up for Obama Care...
Lots of “red flags” or “false flags” in this article.
Why use “Celsius” instead of Farenheit, since Scientific American is an American publication?
No mention of the race of those patients in the studies, esp. since many of the major cities have a majority black population, often with bad eating/drinking habits.
A ‘climate change’ of 2-4 Degrees Celsius per year? Did I read this right? Pure leftist bullshit.
We need to know who was studied, what were their eating/drinking habits, any genetic factors that might favor kidney stones versus not favoring the formation of kidney stones, whether other major US cities not mentioned were studied or not, and if so, what were the results (Detroit, Baltimore, Cleveland, St. Louis, San Francisco, Seattle, Boston, etc).
Something or someone might be “stoned” re this story. More research and grants needed to blame everything on “climate change”.
If the left stops the hysterical screaming about AGW and just continues the drumbeat of publishing these”scientific” articles, they will win the “debate” and government, which doesn’t need an excuse but the enablement will be nice, will happily sequester everything in the name of fighting AGW.
Thanks for that info.
that was my answer - too much soda pop and too little water. Iced tea being a diuretic can’t substitute for hydrating with plain ‘ole water. Greens as a contributor make sense, too, since greens are a big part of a traditional southern diet.
