How far left was I? So far left my beloved uncle was a card-carrying member of the Communist Party in a Communist country. When I returned to his Slovak village to buy him a mass card, the priest refused to sell me one. So far left that a self-identified terrorist proposed marriage to me. So far left I was a two-time Peace Corps volunteer and I have a degree from UC Berkeley. So far left that my Teamster mother used to tell anyone who would listen that she voted for Gus Hall, Communist Party chairman, for president. I wore a button saying "Eat the Rich." To me it wasn't a metaphor.
I voted Republican in the last presidential election.
Below are the top ten reasons I am no longer a leftist. This is not a rigorous comparison of theories. This list is idiosyncratic, impressionistic, and intuitive. It's an accounting of the milestones on my herky-jerky journey.
10) Huffiness.
In the late 1990s I was reading Anatomy of the Spirit, a then recent bestseller by Caroline Myss.
Myss described having lunch with a woman named Mary. A man approached Mary and asked her if she were free to do a favor for him on June 8th. No, Mary replied, I absolutely cannot do anything on June 8th because June 8th is my incest survivors' meeting and we never let each other down! They have suffered so much already! I would never betray incest survivors!

Well color me guilty and smack me upside the head. I was a Union rep and used to be somewhat left of center - I was brought up that way as were my parents. My thinking changed once I saw what they were really like. I cannot change my past but I do talk to others about their thinking and try to get them to see a more conservative POV. Cast me upon your fire of hate if you like I owe you nothing and I have already done more than enough to make up for my younger days. You certainly need to get a grip on the idea of repentance and accept that people can and do change!

This is the problem of leftist and the Government supported ‘School’ indoctrinated(stolen) youth that we must now deal with.
Anyone who supports a party to such an extent will never change until they are made to suffer by the same party. If they are taught to hate us then we must love them and try to save them when they are indeed betrayed.
Then you will have an army of the most devoted and personally informed warriors against the communist left.

In our times, Democrats are truly C. S. Lewis's "men without chests." They reject the Natural Law. As in Genesis, they decide for themselves what is right and what is wrong. There is no check in reason on their behavior. Thus, liberals - at least, anybody who celebrates sodomy and abortion as almost all of them do in one way or another - have left the most fundamental contract with reality that every decent human society before us has had: to be bound by the Natural Law. Democrats/libtards have placed themselves outside every human tradition throughout history in rejecting any basis for morality outside their own wills. They have thereby ceased to be fully human.
When we're talking about libtards, we're talking about creatures that only appear to be human. They're not. And we must always assume that, once a man or woman has surrendered his or her humanity in favor of the Democrats' creed, that there is no return.
There must be no forgiveness for this level of treachery. Treachery against our nation, our traditions, and our people not only in this country but throughout the world going back (at least) to cave man days. Never forgive. Never forget what they have done and continue to do. The millions murdered through abortion. The intentional corruption of innocent children through their "educational" programs. The millions kept in poverty due to their power mad economic programs. The Chinese Great Leap Forward famine. The Soviet GULAG. The Killing Fields of Pol Pot.

I can relate to much of what the author says. It seems there are at least four particularly reprehensible aspects of the leftist mind. These aspects define leftist ideology—it cannot exist without them:
1) the denial of moral and ontological truth
2) the refusal to be accountable
3) motivation by envy
4) the desire to control the lives of others
But the worst thing about leftism—and this is very much relevant to its Marxist roots—is that it is defined by a spirit of anti-Christ. Not to say that eternal salvation can be found in any political group. Only the Lord Jesus Christ can give us this.
