Actually, a lot of people do get it through other means - perfectly innocent women married to men who got it from prostitutes, for example, or infants born infected. This is especially true in Africa and the Third World countries, where it is much more of a serious and expensive health crisis than here.
But that’s not the point. Why, regardless of how this particular disease is spread, would anyone rejoice at the loss of so much knowledge and training? And don’t forget, everything that is learned in dealing with AIDS, which is a particular autoimmune syndrome, is applicable beyond it and reveals more about other diseases of this type.
I suspect the purpose of this AIDS conference was for begging governments to give them more money than actually doing anything resembling Science.
