I very much believe the facts of evidence are not yet pulled together enough to draw conclusions. Both Russia and Ukraine Army as well as Anti-Kiev forces will not take responsibility until the Investigation is completed sufficient to tell what happened. Until then Leaders and Politicians from all parties , both in the Ukraine theater of war and outside, will use this happening against one another.
However, an explosion as that could well scatter bodies....

A debris field of 6+ miles indicates the aircraft broke up at cruising altitude. Had it survived and crashed in one location, most of the evidence would have been vaporized. Something along the lines of United Airlines Flight 93 near Shanksville PA, during 9-11.
