Scott Walker Calls on Wisconsin Legislature to Repeal Common Core
Breitbart ^ | 7/1/7/14 | Dr. Susan Berry

Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker (R) called on state lawmakers Thursday to pass a bill in January that would repeal the Common Core standards and replace them with “standards set by people in Wisconsin.”

According to the Wisconsin State Journal, Walker released a statement Thursday afternoon, just hours after two Republican state senators, Leah Vukmir and Paul Farrow, issued a joint press statement calling for a delay in the use of the Smarter Balanced Assessments (SBAC) that are aligned with the Common Core standards.

Earlier in the year, Walker helped draft a bill that would create a state board to replace the nationalized standards with standards the board develops. Farrow and Vukmir led an effort to pass the bill, but the measure did not receive the support of the chairmen of the legislature’s education committees, and no vote was ever called on the bill.

Tom McCarthy, Department of Public Instruction (DPI) spokesman, said DPI is statutorily obligated to begin using the SBAC tests this school year, and the legislature does not meet again until January.

“You would need to change a lot of statutes in a very short amount of time,” McCarthy added.

Press releases were sent out the day after the Cedarburg School Board voted to ask lawmakers to delay the SBAC tests for at least two years.

Good timing on this.

The main problem getting this moving through last year was the RINOs in the WI legislature that were pro Common Core. These RINO’s are not running for re-election. Now Walker has given the Republicans in the State an opportunity to use as an election issue against the Dems this fall.

Expectations are continued control of the WI Senate by a possible spread now of 3 and now we can look forward to getting rid of it.

The main sponsor of the bill in the Legislature on local talk radio right now in a very positive mood. Guarantees it will be gone with the next session.

It's becoming popular among the politician to repeal "Common Core Standards". Color me suspicious. "Standards" are only a same part of Common Core; you have the incessant testing, you have the data mining to benefit Microsoft, you have the power grab by Washington, etc., etc., etc.

Just repealing the standards ain't gonna make it.

This concerns your comment on the Governors wife. I have been to an excellent restaurant named “Toninos”. My wife and I had an excellent pasta dish there, but no tortillas. Not every name that ends in “o” is Hispanic.

Whom do you support, the overlooked question in your answer?

I went to every article you cited. Even the left leaning ones, Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, Politico, and (my God!) the Washington Post, admit that he never claimed he was for Illegal immigration. The border must be secured. You do not know very much about Scott Walker. I have followed him since he became the executive of Milwaukee County. He believes and says what he means. If he says he would close the border first, that is what he will do. You can doubt him if you want, but I would check with the teachers union in Wisconsin first. Ask them for some more talking points if you want.

I don’t think she sings “I’m turning Japanese” very well. I had forgot about them. Good one.

You win the internet! You can take it home with you. Don’t let an Italian hear you pronounce it that way, though.

In those links I posted he clearly states that he’s for citizenship for current illegals and then making it so everyone who wants can come here legally—removing the need for anyone to enter illegally in the future.

How hard is that to understand?

Out of the prospective GOP candidates? I’d guess Ted Cruz.

Thanks for answering. Not many of the attackers (on any topic) on this site do that.

I think you are misreading his position greatly. I agree that the still isn't as protective as I would like him to be, but he certainly isn't as open-borders as you are implying. Even his enemies (for example, the articles you pointed to) aren't stating it as extremely as you do.

Regrettably, nearly all the top tier folks have something wrong when you look across the position spectrum. We are going to end up having to compromise. I think all on the right would consider abortion support to be a show stopper (yet, even then there is the “rape, incest, health of mother weasel). And we should would like an constitutional carry supporter, but nobody running for office is going to admit that.

But many of the other positions have so much breadth of gray that is it hard to pin someone down. I think Walker is further to the right on amnesty/borders than you suggest. I would like him to clarify his position, so there is no room for implying he is something that he isn't.

Thanks again for responding.

I’m always happy to discuss and disagree with those who can do so civilly—or at least I hope I am!

I wasn’t actually quoting articles from his enemies, at least as far as I know. But I don’t see how easily one can misconstrue his own statements such as:

“If you’re somebody, whether you’re from Mexico or Germany or Ireland, and you want to come to this country legally, we should find a way to make it happen.”

I will continue to support Walker. As far as a path to citizenship, we already have one. Immigrants can apply to become US citizens. I don’t know how anyone can claim this is not true. I have an example in my own family. He specifically stated, in the articles you cited, that people already on the list take precedence and then we can look at the others. This to me seems reasoned.

To add, I would feel bad if we lost him in Wisconsin. There are more things to be done.

Got to go now.

From afar it seems like he’s been a good governor for Wisconsin.

But the 20-30 million illegals should not be given amnesty and citizenship—and that’s what he advocates.

I don’t see how you can miss that such a happening, with the inevitable, follow-on chain migration would make the US a Latin American country politically—and that would be a very bad thing indeed.
