Department of Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson shocked senators of both parties when he revealed that it costs $250 to $1,000 per day to house each of the immigrant children who have recently arrived at the border.
When Johnson reported that figure, there was an audible gasp, a bipartisan gasp, Senator Marco Rubio (R., Fla.) told National Review Online.
Senate Budget Committee chairwoman Patty Murray (D., Wash.) wouldnt comment on the overall cost of housing so far. Its in the president request, she said. President Obama asked Congress to provide $1.8 billion to the Department of Health and Human Services to provide the appropriate care for unaccompanied children, consistent with Federal law, while maintaining services for refugees.
Senator John McCain (R., Ariz.) was one of members of the Gang of Eight who wrote the comprehensive immigration bill that passed out of the Senate last June, but he identified the housing costs as a reason to remove the children from the United States quickly.
The moral of the story is, turn them around quickly, McCain told NRO. Send the message by sending planeloads full of them back to the country they came from, and the parents or whoever who paid the coyotes thousands of dollars to bring them to the United States will think its not such a good idea.
Senator Jay Rockefeller (D., W. Va.) wasnt at the Johnson briefing, but he wasnt surprised by the figure. Housing people its just like prisoners, Rockefeller said. Prisoners can be $50,000 a year or more.
You can always count on the government to find new ways to waste money.
How does the government find a way to spend so much money on things that the little people can do for just a few dollars?
Yup. You can almost guarantee $1 of that $250 to $1000 gets to the "[illegal] Immigrant Child [<21 years old]", and the rest gets pocketed by the government bureaucrats.
What a Country...
It costs $142 per day send a BP agent to the RGV with commercial lodging and meals.
Who in the HECK does spend $750 a day on their children????
My wife and I are in bottom 1%, and yet often have a few dollars left over from the $380/month stipend the state gives us to take care of two foster children.
BILL THE DAMN MEXICAN GOVERNMENT!!!!
DO IT!!!!!
It costs HALF of that per day to stay in a seaside 2two br, 2b condo on key largo.
Just sayin.
Congratulations on being in the 1%. I’m sure you worked harder and risked more than I’m willing to do. Anyhow. I house my kids on well under 250-1000/day. Does this mean my child tax credit for this year will be between 90,000 and 365,000 per child?
wtf can’t we bill the countries they came from?
at $1,000 per day, I’ll take 5 of them.....send them over and start sending the checks.
The solution is really quite simple. It’s called “Foreign Aid”.
Deduct the $3.7Billion and every other cost from the amount we pay Mexico, Honduras, etc.
Then watch those countries squirm and fight to get the kids back.
With our money. They are given food, shelter, clothing, money, drivers licenses, and ultimately jobs and citizenship.
The intention here is to deliberately and intentionally disenfranchize American citizens who are descended from the wrong countries.
91,250 to 365,000$ per year to house an illegal. Median income in US is about 40k. Just worth a mention.
Duh....the idiot heir to the Rockefeller fortune didn’t use a very good comparison. That $50,000 houses a prisoner for a year but would only house a Cadillac Illegal for a month and a half. That should impress even a One Percenter.
For gosh sake you can put them on a Cruise Ship for less than that.
So a 3 bedroom house with 2 kids per bedroom is 6 kids. That's $547,500 for 6 at the minimum. In most states, you could BUY THEM A HOUSE, pay for utilities, feed and clothe six kids for that much money.
That is pure insanity
Illegal immigrant minors are now the 1%!!
Every illegal alien has their own lawyer and team of bureaucrats.
