Obama has been a much stronger leader than Putin. He has advanced his agenda against stubborn GOP opposition, and he has done it without being able to resort to political killings or imprisoning his opponents, as Putin has done. Obama's not getting involved abroad because his whole philosophy is to let foreigners pay for their own security problems while he creates his part-socialist, part-crony capitalist paradise here at home. Obama vs Putin is like the Godfather vs a common gangbanger. Obama is effectively ruling like a king, and the GOP can't lay a glove on him. From the Romanovs to the Bolsheviks thru the post-Bolshevik era, Russians have always been ruled by kings. Obama has managed to acquire imperial powers among a people accustomed to self-rule. That's a much bigger feat than anything Putin has done.
