If ordered into the Gaza Strip, IDF Ground Forces expect to encounter Hamas cells with anti-tank missiles, heavy urban combat, subterranean warfare, and other challenges. "This is the combat that characterizes a terror organization," the source said. The IDF has maintained large numbers of Ground Forces on the Gaza border.
IDF Brigade commanders would have a high degree of independence if ordered to enter the Gaza Strip.
Hamas planned to employ bomb-filled tunnels to facilitate large-scale killing sprees and kidnapping attacks on the border, according to Israeli security officials.
Hamas will try to prove that an Israeli ground offensive will not have an impact on its ability to fire rockets, though its chances of achieving this remain decidedly low. Only a ground maneuver can truly deal with the growing threat of tunnels that straddle the border, officials believe.
Addressing Hamas's use of the Palestinian population as a human shield, the senior source said there are over a dozen Hamas brigade commanders who are hiding within the Gazan civilian population, preventing the IDF from striking them. Hamas commanders use messengers who pass along written notes, he added.
"From our perspective, we did not attack homes," a senior security source said Tuesday, looking back at recent IAF strikes. "[We attacked] only operational infrastructure. We understood what every Hamas commander has in his infrastructure. From the moment there is an operational infrastructure there, it ceases being a home," said the source. T he systematic targeting of such nerve centers has negatively affected the performance of Hamas brigades. Additionally, Israeli targeted assassinations, based on swift sensor to shooter cycles, in which IDF control centers coordinated air strikes after identifying terrorist operatives in the field, has resulted in some 100 casualties among Hamas and Islamic Jihad since the start of the operation.

I don’t think they really want to march into Gaza. There’s no “gain” on this idea. But I’d make the residents of Gaza think long and hard about staying there.
I don’t know where those residents can go, because they can’t easily get out of Gaza! However, they can move to another section of Gaza.
I do.
We’re not talking about where we might WISH they went, but where they either can or will go, considering the fact that - even though the USA doesn’t seem to have border control - these other Middle East countries do, and they’re not going to let millions of Palestinians waltz right into their country!
Well that narrows down the time frame!
The Peace of Westphalia is a Western concept.
The Israelis like us are too invested in rules of engagement that puts their people at risk
My response to Abbas would be stop this now or I’m sending in the B-52s for a major demolition job
Israel is not directing this at Abbas or the Palestinian Authority, or their areas in Judea and Samaria. Israel is directing this at Hamas and their operatives, along with their buildings and supplies - in their territory of Gaza.
>> IDF Ground Forces expect to encounter Hamas cells with anti-tank missiles, heavy urban combat, subterranean warfare, and other challenges.
The toughest “other challenge” is what to do about the women and children that the cowardly philistine vermin place between themselves and the IDF.
"Kill them all. God shall know his own."
And you can bet that some of the weapons shipped out of Libya by John Brennan and Obama went to Hamas.
yep....a 48 hr notice for all non combatants to leave the area and then carpet bomb them like we did to the Germans after D Day.
I have the Red Alert app that’s tied into the missile warning net. It’s been going off every half hour. I can’t help wondering if it’ll ever occur to the people what an equivalent weight in food would mean to their quality of life.
The UN, using our money, is financing “refugee” camps for them a little to the south.
That’s not the way Israel does it. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has directed the IDF to take all precautions to avoid collateral damage with the Palestinian civilians.
Israel didn’t call up 56,000 reserves to just let them sit there and watch “carpet bombing” ... LOL ...
And besides that, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has directed the IDF to use all caution at preventing collateral damage to Palestinian civilians - while going after Hamas, all their active operatives and their facilities. The 56,000 troops are there to carry out those orders from Netanyahu.
