MSNBCs Chris Matthews said Tuesday, I think it looks still like the Republicans can win the Senate. I would bet on them winning the Senate right now.
Matthews estimated that Democrats only have to lose three more out of a contest that I think is basically ten state races right now, two Republican-held and eight Democratic-held. All that the Republicans have to do is win five of those.

Would not surprise me.
Mathews, jimmy carter’s speechwriter, was on msnbc and he always comes across as a mean and vindictive sob.
It’s theirs to lose right now. I will bet, however, that they will find a way to lose this fall.
It takes a genius to determine that does it chris?
the fix is in....
If the Republicans win the Senate in 2014 it will be more of a vote signaling dissatisfaction with Obama and the Democrats than a vote “for” the GOP. At this point in the campaign the Republican Party stands for nothing other than being “against” Obama. The party has provided no statement of principles to which all of its candidates adhere. There is no 2014 version of the “contract for America” and apparently there will not be one.
Voting for almost every GOP Senate candidate is like voting for door #2 on Let’s Make a Deal. If the Republicans win the Senate in 2014, they’ll let us see behind the door in January 2015. Based on what we saw behind the House of Representatives door in 2011 I’m not counting on much.
We've already seen the door to hell open so it has to be bettter. I can only hope, a lot better.
i would be surprised....you know that old adage about not being able to do a certain thing in a whorehouse with a fistful of money??? thats the GOPe...
Pubbies have a good shot at losing safe seats in Kentucky, South Carolina, and Mississippi. Apparrently they are running pathetic GOPers in Colorado and Michigan. If Chrissy is counting any of these five seats in that Republican majority he may find himself pleasantly surprised come Nov. 5th.
If they wanted to win they would have no better than a 50/50 chance. The issue is that they don’t want to win. Most of them just have democrat lite ideas.
The ‘Rats will likely retake the Senate in 2016. What will the GOPe do in the two years they may be given?
It really doesn’t matter if McConnell is Majority Leader. The GOP has signaled there will be no engaged opposition to the Obama agenda.
The Dems will go to their GOP bench for the big votes if needed. We’ll get more of the cloture vote shenanigans from the GOP to avoid confrontation with the kenyan. Nothing will change as long as the current GOP leadership is running the show in DC.
Fly in the ointment could be some establishment republicans might not make it!!!
Why is that Chrissy?
“The issue is that they dont want to win. Most of them just have democrat lite ideas.”
I firmly believe that the GOPe would rather not take control of the Senate if it meant that some of the new seats were filled with “undesirable, non-establishment people.” What has been going on in Mississippi, is clear evidence of their mindset.
NEVER SEND THE RNC, RNCC, OR THE RNSC ANY MONEY! They will use it against your interests (unless you are a proponent of the RINO philosophy).
So what if they do?
Nothing is going to change.
Cory Gardner is a fine candidate in Colorado. Why did you call him pathetic?
Possibly out of ignorance but it is my understanding he was the GOPe pick. Heritage only has him at 64% and he has voted for a couple disturbing things. Coloradan Freepers seem to like him and say he is "electable" but that is usually a code word for RINO. All in all I just don't get the warm fuzzies about him.
The reason he is more electable is that Ken Buck had a lot of baggage from his last Senate run due to a spate of foot-in-mouth disease that would have been fodder for opposition ads. Ken stepped aside and is now running for Cory's seat and I think would make a fine Congressman.
