Dirty Tricks, Tea Party Suicide and Rising Mississippi Anger (NY Times on Death of Mark Mayfield)
NY Times ^ | July 14, 2014 | Campbell Robertson

JACKSON, Miss. — Mark Mayfield, one of the founders of the Mississippi Tea Party, had lost his political appetite. He stayed away from Facebook and stopped writing letters to the editor. He went to his law office, but often had little to do, since his major clients had all but cut him off. When the runoff for the Republican primary came around, pitting longtime Senator Thad Cochran against State Senator Chris McDaniel, the Tea Party challenger whom Mr. Mayfield deeply believed in, friends said Mr. Mayfield could not even bring himself to vote. Then on the morning of June 27, three days after the runoff that left Mr. Cochran the victor, Mr. Mayfield killed himself.

I am very very leery of anything the NY Times puts out, always looking for their angle of attack on conservatives. The article referred to is missing a lot of detail. Of course the family of Mark Mayfield refused to talk to the NY Times reporter likely for a few reasons 1) it is the NY Times, 2) they are being watched and 3) they are considering a lawsuit against the Madison PD.

The silence of the Mayfield family who surely saw the 'suicide note' and the unbelievable level of hostility in their communities would leave the NY Times reporter without a real story other than to parrot what's already out there. Yet they printed this story on Page A1, why?

I believe the NY Times motivation here is not at all a human interest story that seeks to expose hard ball political corruption for the benefit of Mark Mayfield's family or the Tea Party movement he helped to foster in Mississippi. I think their motivation is to use what information they pickup or fabricate to spin against Cochran for the November election and in so doing taint the entire GOP with the aim to squelch its bid to take control of the Senate. Like vultures they are waiting for GOP establishment (GOPe) or Tea Party to leave its dead on the ground for pickings.

Some will say this will hurt the GOP: yes and no. Yes, because leftist outlets like the NY Times will amplify the corruption of the GOPe. No, because tea party republicans like Chris McDaniel, if he should prevail (I am praying and confident he will), will provide a clean face to the dirty politics of Washington found in both the GOPe and the democrat party.

I don't like the GOPe (symbolized by Cochran) and their tactics and I am aware this is war. To me the GOPe are acting as paid democrat infiltrators of the Beltway class drawn from the criminal fringe. To fall in behind them is to further the destruction of the principles that give sustenance to the tea party movement. The goal of the Tea Party is to create a faithful representation built on a foundation of trust. With this goal in mind, supporting the likes of Cochran is impossible.

GOP control of the Senate is not jeopardized by the internecine warfare of the GOPe and its tea party inspired faction. Should McDaniel prevail, the story will be that the GOP has a faction in their tea party inspired members that keep a check on its corruption, whereas the democrats do not.

The electorate is fed up with the democrat party. Exposure of corruption in the GOP is not news nor will it turn the tide in the electorate's disgust of Obama and his democrats. Such exposure facilitated by leftist organs such as the NY Times will serve the democrats only as a child's excuse for wrongdoing "it isn't me, they did it" or at best "it isn't only me, they did it too!". It is the common tactic of the criminal to vomit (project) its disgusting garbage of values onto upstanding bystanders in order to 'level the field of perspective and judgement'.

Clean, principled and trustworthy GOP tea party inspired candidates prevailing over the known corruption of its own party will be certain news. It will get attention not only for this November's elections but also for the presidential election in 2016.

The matter of Mark Mayfield is a must-know. This was a very good man and it is not a sure thing to this poster that it was a 'suicide'. I need to see the evidence.

The thing to understand here is that Mark had a fine reputation and was viewed in high esteem by most everyone who had contact with him.

The scant 'evidence' I have been able to gather that was used against Mark Mayfield was that after Clayton Kelly who was arrested for walking into (not breaking into) the nursing home of Cochran's wife Rose Cochran, he admitted that he and others had contacted Mark Mayfield whose own mother was in the same nursing home as Rose Cochran, to find out if he could take a photo of Rose Cochran inside the nursing home and Mark Mayfield declined. So this is evidence that Mark Mayfield was NOT directly involved.

Then Mark Mayfield wanting to be helpful to someone wishing to do a background news blogger story on the Cochran family put them in touch with someone to talk further to. That's the extent of his involvement and on its face there's not a 'smidgen' of anything illegal about it.

But the 'meanness' of the Cochran camp came down on Mark Mayfield in ways no one could ever imagine and that is where the real story is.

Now what Kelly and the others (not including Mayfield) planned was certainly not an intelligent idea but not entirely illegal. There's no law against interviewing someone in a nursing home but there are laws against such interviews without consent and the laws carry misdemeanor charges, not felony charges. But the knuckleheads on the Cochran side decided on Cochran's order through his lawyers to 'punish and revenge' Kelly and his companions by upping the charges from misdemeanor to felony based on 'voyeurism' aka Peeping Tom statutes because Rose was in her nightie.

What followed Cochran's knuckleheaded action was a knee jerk display of brutal bravado via sub-knuckleheads in the Madison Mayor's office (the Mayor of Madison where Mark Mayfield practiced law is a Cochran supporter) and their police department.

Keep in mind, Mayfield lived in Ridgeland where his body was found. He worked in Madison where he was brutalized, cuffed and hauled off to jail like an enemy of the state of the highest order. The Madison police knuckleheads had the gall to travel on the day of his death to Ridgeland to 'confirm' his killing. They trespassed on his property and the family has announced they will sue the Madison police department.

Crosslinking to another great thread you posted on this topic ..... A Life Ruined: The Corrupt Players of the Mississippi Senate Race (Must Read)

Investigated and written by FReeper Jen Kuznicki, this story needs to go viral.

Yet they printed this story on Page A1, why?

Because President Jarrett asked them to "make it so"?

Remember, as the Clinton White House targeted Free Republic with the assistance of The Washington comPost and The Lies Angeles Times, the Obama White House is targeting the Tea Party with its Palace Guard media AND all its executive branch agencies, like the IRS, the FBI, the DOJ, and so on.

The Obamaites can use the executive branch agencies against their enemies completely out in the open, because all they have to do now is "lose the hard drive".

The Clinton White House had to be more circumspect in its use of its executive branch agencies.

This article is profoundly biased as you would expect from the New York Times, but it does present some information that I haven’t see in the debate and is useful from that perspective. The author is careful to present facts and even more careful to omit critical information in order to present a very distorted view of this affair. The distortions are all in favor of the Cochran version of events. It’s a rare day when the New York Times helps any Republican and brings into question why the Left has become such a champion of Thad Cochran.

Maybe they knew all along that he was one of them. Those thoughts were certainly reinforced by the Democrat-like tactics and behavior that we saw from the Cochran campaign and his Haley Barbour minders.
