‘Building a case’ for impeachment, but not Obama’s

This week helped make clear that there’s a sizable Republican contingent that desperately wants to impeach President Obama. It’s not altogether clear why, though as Norm Ornstein put it, the GOP’s “Impeach Obama crowd” may be “the lunatic fringe,” but it’s starting to go “mainstream.”

Advancing the cause will, however, be quite difficult. House Republican leaders aren’t on board, and plenty of rank-and-file GOP lawmakers fear political blowback. Impeachment crusaders have an uphill climb.

At least, that is, when it comes to targeting the president.

What I love about this is the unstated frustration that must be evident on Capitol Hill. “We may not be able to impeach the president,” some GOP lawmakers are likely thinking, “but gosh darn it we’re going to have to impeach someone.”

If successful [in impeaching Holder], this would be the first impeachment of a sitting cabinet official in 137 years, and only the second ever in U.S. history. Of course, there’s no reason to think it will be successful – Holder is guilty of no wrongdoing, and to my mind, is widely underrated – but if Republicans have an impeachment itch, much of the caucus may decide this is the best way to scratch it.

It’s funny reading an article by an MSLSD lunatic writing about fringe republicans like it’s common knowledge and he’s so main stream. Same way when a Radical leftist democratic talks about AGW as if it is scientific fact and you have to be a complete moron not to buy the garbage coming out his pie hole.

It would be instructive to learn the conditions required to impeach the prez. What would Boehner need to impeach? What grounds are sufficient to remove all doubt of the necessity for impeachment?

I think this is outlined in the Constitution’s Articles of Impeachment.

Here's everything the Constitution has to say on the matter:

Article 1, Section 3. The House of Representatives shall chuse their Speaker and other Officers; and shall have the sole Power of Impeachment

Article 1, Section 4. The Senate shall have the sole Power to try all Impeachments. When sitting for that Purpose, they shall be on Oath or Affirmation. When the President of the United States is tried, the Chief Justice shall preside: And no Person shall be convicted without the Concurrence of two thirds of the Members present.

Judgment in Cases of Impeachment shall not extend further than to removal from Office, and disqualification to hold and enjoy any Office of honor, Trust or Profit under the United States: but the Party convicted shall nevertheless be liable and subject to Indictment, Trial, Judgment and Punishment, according to Law.

Article 2, Section 4. The President, Vice President and all civil Officers of the United States, shall be removed from Office on Impeachment for, and Conviction of, Treason, Bribery, or other high Crimes and Misdemeanors.

Not my question. What would Boehner and the GOP leadership consider adequate grounds for impeachment? Apparently murder, theft, consorting with the enemy, refusing to fulfill legal obligations, tyranny and etc are insufficient grounds. Precisely what would these luminaries consider an impeachable offense?

Yes, I see now what you meant. I have no idea what they would consider impeachable offenses. They don’t know either as I think you implied.
