Todd Akin Not Sorry for Rape Comments After All
Newser ^ | July 10 2014 | Jenn Gidman

(Newser) – First Todd Akin said "legitimate rape" victims don’t get pregnant. Then the Missouri rep apologized for the rape comment in a commercial for his 2012 Senate run and the world moved on (but not before opponent Claire McCaskill soundly defeated him). Now he’s back with a new book and a new (old) outlook: that he was scientifically accurate in his initial assessment of rape, according to Politico. "My comment about a woman’s body shutting the pregnancy down was directed to the impact of stress of fertilization," he writes in Firing Back: Taking on the Party Bosses and Media Elite to Protect Our Faith and Freedom.

"This is something fertility doctors debate and discuss. Doubt me? Google 'stress and infertility,' and you will find a library of research on the subject." And he says apologizing for the initial comment is one of his few regrets: "By asking the public at large for forgiveness, I was validating the willful misinterpretation of what I had said." Former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee penned the foreword to Akin's book, scheduled to hit shelves July 15, and calls out Republicans who "circled the wagons," according to Raw Story, "not to support Todd and help him overcome an obstacle but instead as a firing squad pointed at the congressman."

In fairness to the libs, Whoopie Goldberg took a HEAP of crap for her “rape rape” comment from the libs I know, but then she was not running for office either)

He’s either a genuine moron or a plant/false flag.

We have to send these candidates to some type of boot camp to learn how to deal with the MSM onslaught.
You know they are going to be attacked by the journ-0-lists full bore.
Limbaugh identified the war on women theme in Jan 2012 when Journ-0-list Stephanopolus hit Romney with the question during the R primary debate.

Stupid should hurt.
I don’t care how conservative someone is if they are a moron they deserve to be thrown under the bus, and kept there.

I am, I did, and I still do support Todd Akin.

Who among us has NEVER misspoken? While his comment wasn't worded well, the media and McCaskill took advantage of Todd's comments to further their agenda and campaign. I think it's time for all of us to move past the misspoken words and work/fight together to save our country!!!

A smart person knows his wider audience and phrases things so they can be understood by the electorate. Perception is everything! Even if he was technically correct in some cases, the voters are going to have a knee ner reaction to such a blanket statement. He’s not a doctor.

This dumbass does more harm to the pro-life movement than good. The best thing he can do is keep his mouth shut. Because he didn't, we got stuck with McClaskill. Now he opens his mouth in an election year.

As far as his legitimate rape comments go, again it's wrong. I am pro-life, including in cases of rape and incest (which are wrong although I shouldn't even have to say that). However killing the baby isn't the answer. It's not the baby's fault. That could also be the next Rebecca Kiessling that is killed when those exceptions are there.

What is lost in all of the smoke is the context of the question!

This was over should abortion be allowed for rape.

He made the point that pregnancy is rare for 'legitimate' rape (i.e. violence or the threat of violence being used).

Thus, according to him, the issue of rape isn't really a factor in the abortion issue.

But his point is still irrelevant since pregnancies do happen so the question regarding abortion and rape would still be a legitimate one.

Now, regarding rape, the Courts have stated that the biological father would have paternal rights with the conceived child!

This is the abomination which must be changed!

Akin won the primary because he was better on issues that matter. No one cared that much about earmarks.

They really should be angry as Steelman or Brunner(Brunner supported the NDAA amnesty proposition) for not dropping out.

He would not have donated to Thad like all these other GOP senators did.

He was more trustworthy on amnesty standing with Steve King and Tancredo on the issue.

Huckabee is a good guy for calling out Tokyo Rove on his threats to Akin.

sorry. late getting back to this. it’s always amazing how two people looking at the same thing have opposite viewpoints, but there you are. you certainly would be in sync with the political wisdom of the romneys and roves of the world, i guess.

the fact abortion needs to be front and center all the time and the fact that Akin’s initial comment did that in a spectacular way was for me the victory. the political win for a dem or rep at the national level is more or less irrelevant to me in cases where no true conservative is running. it’s my belief that the hiding of the fact of birth-control abortion is at the root of the spiritual problem dragging this country down.

Akin dissappointed me then (and frankly i accept that he lost the election as being for the best) because he immediately turned around and recanted his stated position when the GOPe came down on him. he proved to me he’s not moored as a conservative. to his credit, what he’s trying to do now is exactly what he should have done then.

hope that does you the curtesy of a reply. i don’t think we can agree on much here, but i respect your view. have the last word if you want.

My last word would be that if you really care about the unborn, then you need to focus on winning. Feeling good about losing candidates doesn’t save lives.
