Republicans from Washington to Little Rock are privately distressed that Rep. Tom Cotton, R-Ark., a candidate once hailed as their most talented U.S. Senate recruit of the cycle has lost his luster in his challenge to second-term Democratic Sen. Mark Pryor.
The overarching problem: While Cottons resume is sparkling, his persona is flat. He speaks with authority, but lacks warmth. His wooden delivery is more often academic, lacking an everyday, common touch thats still essential in a place with slightly less than 3 million people, the smallest state in the south. His slender frame and boyish haircut makes him look even younger than his 37 years, a trait Democrats are attempting to subtly exploit as they portray Cotton as a bit too overeager as he seeks a promotion after just a single term in the House. He's a smash hit with the conservative commentariat class in Washington, but remains a largely unknown quantity to the everyday Arkansan.

Knocking off Senators is hard. If we pick up six and take the majority, we will more likely lose less than six in the next cycle. If we pick up ten, which is doable or even more, we will be a majority for at least a couple cycles.
Obama is like gum on the Democrat’s shoe. They can’t shake him or Obama care. Or the economy, or the loss of American prestige.
Welfare recipients don’t vote in midterms and many only vote for the POTUS during POTUS elections. They are on welfare for a reason. NOT TOO BRIGHT!
My opinion is Cotton would be a terrific president. He is that good.
If Cotton loses, it is over for this country because a great person can not win elections.
RE: While Cottons resume is sparkling, his persona is flat.
They could have said the same about another President ( one of the best IMHO ) — Calvin Coolidge.
Some wag once said of Coolidge, “He don’t talk much, but when he does, he don’t say much.”
That’s funny I was thinking the exact same thing but Coolidge could write one hell of a speech even if delivered in monotone.

“Obama is like gum on the Democrats shoe.”
I was thinking some other object.
Well, boo hoo. What these idiots are saying is that he is not phony enough for the electorate. The secret of success in politics is sincerity. Once you can fake that, you’ve got it made.
Yes indeed, but what should have been slam dunk defeats of Democrats in Arkansas, Louisiana, and North Carolina seem to be slipping away. Lack of the intangible it that makes for media charisma dooms candidates who otherwise are strong conservatives.
RE: Some wag once said of Coolidge, He dont talk much, but when he does, he dont say much.
And here’s the more important thing — He didn’t presume to do much either. He just let the country unleash its own prosperity ( he was VP to Warren Harding when the USA almost sank into a great depression — 1920-21 ).
I also give him credit for quietly cleaning up the Teapot Dome scandal and holding those responsible to account.
Coolidge’s administration was marked by economic growth, low taxes, balanced budgets, restrained spending, peace and the most underrated virtue of any government, stability.
A quite man who BELIEVED in America and didn’t presume to think that he or the government could solve everyone’s problems for them.
THAT is what I want — a boring, efficient, effective President.
I believe Cotton wants to keep the doors open and doesn’t,t want to po the GOPe.
I met Tom last week. He certainly seemed personable enough to me. This looks like Democrat agit-prop.
Are they all T-Party so Rove can blame the T-Party instead of the dozens of GOPE types that lose every cycle.
Well we wouldn’t want to call him a Tar Baby. That would be seen as RACIST! Even though it is a common term that is well understood by anyone that ever opened a can of tar or even was within twenty feet of an open tar bucket.
This country has been blessed with selfless and capable leaders in the past, but it is becoming the distant past. Compare Harry and Bess Truman with Bill and Hillary Clinton, or Ike with Jimmy Carter. Books and perks have replaced pride and prudence.
I will not live to see such an unlikely crop emerge from the current pot of posers. Maybe you are young enough to hope. I wish you and the nation good fortune.
Where is the GOP’s NRSC going to pick up one to replace the safe one they had in Mississippi?
Democrat agit-prop???? At the US Booze and Girls Report????
No WAY!!!!! How could THAT happen.
Conservatives who look to leftists in Big Media for advice are idiots. Big Media says the guy's no good? Then he has my support!
Cotton is GOP-e all the way.
He is a Karl Rove schill. Better than Pryor... but GOP-e nonetheless.
You have some insider information you’d like to share? I spoke with the man privately, at some length, and walked away with the impression that he’s a solid conservative.
I’m not convinced that I was deceived.
