Aeons ago, my family opened our home to a refugee family from a third-world country.

It was thoroughly educational. For us. Not so much for them; they couldn't learn, didn't want to learn, just wanted to live in squalor like they had live in squalor back in [redacted]. Their pre-teen son did learn how to curse fit to make a sailor blush ... not sure where he picked it up. Not us.

I became convinced that to a great extent, third-worlders live in poverty and squalor because they don't want to learn anything different. All cultures are NOT equal.

A very common misconception is that the world is just like us.
Most who think this way have never visited another country.
