Pickup trucks customized to spew black smoke into the air are quickly becoming the newest weapon in the culture wars.
"Coal Rollers" are diesel trucks modified with chimneys and equipment that can force extra fuel into the engine causing dark black smoke to pour out of the chimney stacks. These modifications are not new, but as Slate's Dave Weigel pointed out on Thursday, "rolling coal" has begun to take on a political dimension with pickup drivers increasingly viewing their smokestacks as a form of protest against environmentalists and Obama administration emissions regulations.
Last month, Vocativ noted many coal rollers focus their fumes on "nature nuffies," or people who drive hybrids, and "rice burners," or Japanese-made cars.

Typical emissions testing has looked for catalytic converter bypasses for years. By bypassing it, your mileage goes up considerable, at least in older cars. Computer controlled cars likely adjust for it.
Even if you created such a bypass for a diesel, you would likely get so much waste carbon in your exhaust that your particulate readings would still be high 20 miles later.
Around here they usually have the stars and bars flying from a pole mounted in the bed--between the coal pipes.
We have enough jacks here in Houston that spew crap out their tailpipes to put them to shame.
What a bunch of male bovine manure... liberals are easy to annoy...
Being a penny-pincher, all I see is unburned carbon pouring out the stack. When I was in the coal burning business, we went to incredible lengths to make sure there was the absolute amount of unburned carbon in the fly ash. That’s the engineer in me.
Which ends up going into the ground.
We are a carbon-based life form, dependent on the soil for our very existence. That includes lots of carbon.
A little more never hurts.
If I made my chainsaw do that would it count?
Think hot rods modified with tanks and plumbing to "shoot flames" out of the exhaust. Very popular with some of the "second childhood" set. I stopped by my local post office, and two guys (old farts about my age) had the hood up on a Chevelle 427 (obviously lovingly restored) with the mod.
If it’s two-cycle, it’s probably doing that already...and it’s probably two-cycle.
Understood.
I don't see the point in this.
Smoking a liberal in a Prius will do little more than cement his hatred of bitter clingers with smoky pickups.
There must be a better way.
I searched using that title and it didn’t come up. Maybe because it was truncated.
The Steamers....
I usually only use a unique word or maybe two when searching for titles.
I only knew about that thread as I’d posted a few pictures, etc. on it.
That was a couple days ago so different folks will see this one.
I’ll try that next time.
Laughing so hard I’m crying
Guess it's OK to be obnoxious when you're liberal, illegal to do if you're "conservative".
BTW, it wouldn't surprise me if a lot of these Coal Rollers were found in West Virginia.
Lots of Democrats in that state.
And I'm sure they're pretty pissed at Obama over what he's done to the industry there.
Some people can only be pushed so far before they push back.
maybe t’was a long train of abuses and usurptations or som’n like that...
