Black Democrats look to Cochran on voting rights

After black voters helped Mississippi Sen. Thad Cochran survive an intense Republican primary runoff against an insurgent conservative challenger, some civil rights leaders in the South want him to repay the favor.

Their request? Cochran should lead the charge in the Senate to renew a key section of the Voting Rights Act struck down last year by the Supreme Court’s conservative majority. […]

Cochran angered some conservatives with his unabashed appeal to Democrats in the June 24 runoff election against state Sen. Chris McDaniel, who eked out a win with the support of tea party groups in the state’s primary but didn’t win the outright majority required to avoid a runoff against the six-term incumbent.

Black Mississippians, who AP exit polls have indicated overwhelmingly vote Democratic, have voted for Cochran in general elections in the past, but have never before been such a key voting bloc in a contested GOP contest. He must now ponder how to respond to that unusual primary coalition while mending fissures inside the state GOP, which is mostly supported by voters who are white. …

(Black Democrats look to Cochran:) “Cochran should lead the charge in the Senate to renew a key section of the Voting Rights Act struck down last year by the Supreme Court’s conservative majority.”

Lemme see if I understand. Lefty federal District court judges can overturn the will of the people of the various States on homosexual marriage; and, the Senate can overturn SCOTUS rulings on elections?
The first part doesn’t sound very Democratic. Why not let just let King Obama I decide?

Looks like the GOPe has to figure what to do with their new constituency.

News flash for AP and other msm who don't actually get the news much less report it, he hasn't necessarily 'survived' the runoff.

That coalition will last about as long as a Palestinian-Israeli cease fire.

If the election is scrapped because of all the fraud, and Thad concedes...will the Coloured folk get to keep their walking around money?

I'd like to see the look on their faces when they realize that Sen. McDaniel doesn't owe them squat.

“He must now ponder how to respond to that unusual primary coalition while mending fissures inside the state GOP...” I think most who visit this site can think of a solution to Thad’s problem that would absolutely eliminate it for him.

If Cochran gets reelected he’ll go back into Hibernation

It was a primary. The blacks knew exactly what they were doing.

When election time comes, it'll be back to 99.9% vote for the Dems.

That may be, but the blacks are going to extract a political payback from Cochroach if he’s re-elected. Frankly, I’d rather see a RAT win at this point.....

You’d rather see a “RAT” win? Then you are falling for the GOP-e’s true agenda. There are other ways for McDaniel to win, remember.

If these people really think Cochran and his cabal will pay off they had better go back to picking cotton.

They’re probably just asking for publicly what Cochran already agreed to privately in exchange for their church-sponsored “get out the vote” program.

I’d rather see a RAT win, than Cochroach. Goes without saying I’d rather see McD win than anyone else.

Do you mean a literal rat? If a Democrat wins, it’s the same as Cochran winning.

Not quite. You can count on either one coming after you once they're in office, but one will be frontal assault and the other a knife in the back.

I still think the election will be overturned or Cochran will resign for reasons of health. Once the TP starts finding massive fraud which includes Barbour and prominent people from both parties, McDaniel will be in the Senate. The TP must keep the heat on.
