Mozart did not like the flute. His favorite wind instrument was the oboe, and he fell in love with the clarinet in the last year of his life. But his father pressured him to write for the flute, which was the trendy instrument of the time. Wolfgang was only 21, and he was still taking a lot of crap from his father, while behind the old mans back, he was sticking out his tongue at the pushy old pedant.
This piece is in three movements. The first is an allegro in D Major. The slow movement is an adagio in B minor, conjoined with the finale, a rondo marked allegro in D Major. This is charming music for sensible people.
The audience in this video applauds between movements, which is a definite no-no.
