Conservatives, Losing One Battle Doesn’t Mean We Have Lost The War
Townhall.com ^ | June 30, 2014 | Kurt Schlichter

I was furious that Thad Cochran slimed his way to victory, but every time we hardcore conservatives lose a battle, it seems a contingent of bitter-enders starts up about how the Republicans and Democrats are exactly the same, and how they’ll refuse to vote in the general, and how they’ll take their collective ball and go home.

That’s crazy talk. We can get even with the GOP establishment later; we need to beat the Democrats first.

Now, many of my good friends disagree with me here, but I respect them enough to say what I think. And I think that when we focus on the establishment’s antics in Mississippi instead of focusing on November, we make Barack Obama happier than if he got to play 18 holes with the ghost of Karl Marx.

Let us assume that Thad Cochran didn’t play fair. Now let me assume the role of your father:

Life is not fair.

Yeah, I was shocked – shocked! – that our opponents refused to commit ritual suicide in order to allow our chosen candidate to waltz into the nomination that, a couple weeks ago, was his for his taking. Was anyone expecting the establishment to go quietly, to rollover, to not use every tool at its disposal to hold on to power?

We’re conservatives. We’re not supposed to make excuses, but I’m sure hearing a lot in the wake of Cochran’s win.

Yeah, his win. News Flash: Thad Cochran got more votes than our guy. That means our guy failed to perform the most important function of a conservative politician.

He failed to win.

Hell, he couldn’t handle the GOP establishment calling him a racist. Why does anyone imagine he could have handled the Democrats doing it in November? They’re the pros!

Yeah, Cochran dared to appeal to Democrats…who voted for him. It would be nice to have other Republicans embrace this innovative concept.

Am I happy about the slanders Cochran’s buddies spread, or about the way the K Street crew spent zillions to keep Thad awake and away from the livestock long enough to get nominated?

No, but that ship has sailed and sank. Winners leverage their assets into victory.

Am I suggesting that we forgo our vengeance? Never! I’m all about payback. But getting even with these K Street creeps can wait. I say defeat the Democrats first. Instead of choosing to fight two opponents at once, we can deal with these establishment tools later from a position of strength when Reid’s reign is just a bad memory.

I’m getting sick of this quitter talk about how we can’t possibly win, about how everyone’s against us, about how this struggle being hard is some sort of cosmic injustice perpetrated upon us by mysterious forces beyond our control.

George Washington and his men ate their damn shoes as they shivered in Valley Forge. That’s adversity, not having to somehow find the strength to carry on after nominating a Republican who is sure to win in November and has a mere 88 percent conservative rating.

This isn’t about our feelings. This isn’t about our “principles” either. There is no principle that compels us to allow Barack Obama to retain a Senate majority that absolutely will confirm a Supreme Court justice who will absolutely vote to:

Yes, as I said, I am anxious to attack those who are trying, they seem to think subtlely, to blackmail/cajole those of us who put principle over party sleaze tactics, into rallying round good ole Cochran. Won’t work, and they’re not as subtle as seem to think.

Every day is a tough one, in one manner of speaking, when those who pretend to be on the side of good and the right, want to play conservatives for their own personal power, at the expense of said conservatives.

On a personal level, my life is good, God is in control.

Does that answer everything?

Just be careful mentioning God in discussions with progressive Republicans. At best, you’ll be met with a blank stare; at worst, you’ll get hostility. Steel yourself!

mrsmel,

I think every so-called conservative, who thinks that his “hurt feelings” are more important than denying Obama the opportunity to appoint hard-left judges, who will work to “judicially” repeal America’s Bill of Rights, needs to demonstrate some common-sense patriotism.

IMHO, it’s time to stop whining that we were “cheated”. Instead, we should ask ourselves just WHY we failed to be prepared for cheating! Ask ourselves what ELSE we needed to do to WIN, in spite of the cheating, so we can do that the NEXT time. Absentee-ballot outreach? Independent voter outreach? Anti-amnesty outreach?

Unfortunately, all this fashionably angry self-pity supports the claim of the Democrat media that the “Tea Party” is TOO EMOTIONAL to be trusted with something as important as “governing” America.

To win in November, we need the support of “independent” voters. Let’s not throw that support away....

...trying to “get even” for hurt “feelings”

Sometimes evil has to be punished and I’m not talking about Cochran, I’m talking about the barbours, and the RNSC. If we jump on board after this we just give our assent to these tactics and sit by and watch them purge the republican party of all dissent and Conservatives. I don’t believe in third parties, I believe in working through the republican party and at this time telling them to go to hell and casting a NO VOTE in the Mississippi senate race is the proper way to do it.

Life is not fair.

This is where I stopped. Didn't need to read any more.

I have never believed this. Life is not ALWAYS fair, but in general it is. This is kind of statement is the, "Don't look at how you got here, just get over it." statement.

If you get an education, work hard, take sensible risks, tell the truth, love your family, plan for the future and take everything in moderation, there is a very good chance that "life" will treat you well.

If you drop out, do drugs, have kids out of wedlock and rely on the government for your existence, life if going to be tough.

Maybe this is too "Pollyanna" for Monday morning.

Again, it’s not “hurt feelings” and I’m tired of explaining the difference. I won’t vote a leftist, especially one who calls himself a Republican for years, then chastises conservatives to rat voteds cor “obstructing” Obama. That speaks to who he is and what he will do, not my “feelings”.

I’m not getting even. I am, completely rationally refusing to vote for a man who criticises conservatives to the left for obstructing Obama’s agenda. If i wanted to support Obama’s agenda, I could vote for a rat myself, whicj I won’t do. You Cochran supporters are really a piece of work.

I’m not a Klukker for thinking $17T in debt is unsustainable.

I won’t vote for anyone who says so either.

We haven’t won a battle in decades, and I don’t see French or Spanish sails on the horizon. Conservatives have lost the culture war; now it is about preserving our way of life despite the larger culture (or more appropriately, cultural vacuum).

However, the black flag of the Islamic State is on the horizon.

Our way of life is not going to be "preserved". History is not kind to those who wish to merely "preserve" their way of life. Unless you like paying jizya in return for a watered-down, empty suit version of your way of life.

I don’t even know why they’re trying so hard to get our votes, now, they didn’t want them in the primary and the run-off. Well actually I do know-they’re going to lose in November. If they could win the GE without us, they’d tell us to kiss their azzes- again.

mrsmel, it’s a waste of your time, trying to argue against the “hurt feelings/getting even” tactic. I’ve been following these threads since the Thad win, the the Trolls have been using this canard over and over again. Don’t bother falling for it. If that’s the best they can do, it’s pretty pathetic.

Flash: IF Thad Cochran is NOT absolutely necessary to win the Senate, everyone should stay home or vote against him.

But...

If the ONLY way to win the Senate is to re-elect him, then he should be re-elected with our help.

Then defeated when the Senate can be controlled without him.

Oh I’m steeled. I’ve seen it all when people are castigating those of us who won’t vote for a man who derided us as “obstructionists” against the very man we supposedly sent him to oppose.

Interesting perspective.

Is this a guy I would take advice from? Probably not, based upon the analysis presented here.

There's a case to be made for holding your nose and voting for the establishment candidate, but this isn't it.

Don’t worry, I’m not. I can’t think of anything more despicable than to throw the “nanny nanny boo boo” card at people who are shocked that a so-called conservative crticised conservatives for not supoorting an extreme leftist’s agenda. Then have the gall to patronise us while demanding our vote. I’m starting to think they’re the shills and sleepers.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who noticed the tone of some posts..."hurt feelings, fetal position," etc.

I think it's projection. That's not how our minds work, and that's not what we think.

Noise crowds out signal, and nonsense crowds out reason. I don't know if posters such as we've seen on this thread are merely wrong(rinos) or trolls...but if they say the same thing, does it matter?

I don’t know if it’s projection, or the old leftist/psychological technique of attempting to draw out an emotional reaction from the opponent, thus preventing them from thinking logically (”Now now, instead of going home and licking your wounds, letting your hurt feelings get the best of you, why don’t you join us”). It’s very condescending and Alinsky-like.

Wow. Questioning someone's conservative ethos, rationalization skills and patriotism all in the first sentence....... just because they're not of the same opinion you are.

You might want to practice up on your skills of persuasion. The GOPe has already cornered the market on insulting us.

I could even wonder if they're rats trying to ensure that don't vote for Cochran. Reverse phsycology doesn't work on me. I still won't vote for Cochran, but for my own valid reasons, not theirs.
