‘Rachel Maddow Show’ Producer: IRS Scandal ‘Imaginary…Meaningless…a Nothingburger’

Benen claimed that throughout the imaginary IRS scandal, theres [been] an interesting pattern of events that serves as a template for every development. It starts with an alarming report, which is followed by scrutiny, which leads to details that make the original report appear meaningless.
Benen didn't have the same view of scandals during the Bush years. From Benens post (emphasis added):
The [IRS] controversy began with reports that the [agency] targeted conservative groups, there was a natural reaction: thats unacceptable. But then the relevant details came out and in reality the tax agency scrutinized liberal, conservative, and non-ideological groups, effectively ending the story. Every allegation, including conspiracy theories about White House involvement, evaporated into nothing.
More recently the scandal produced headlines about the IRS destroying important email messages, which again led fair-minded people to a simple conclusion: thats outrageous. But then the relevant details came out, the allegations fell apart, and it was again time to move on.

That nothingburger would become a somethingburger if it was part of an impeachment happy meal.

As I surf the vast wasteland of cable tv, spending fractions of a second on 95% of the programs, now and then I drop by the alphabet soup channels. In seconds, the propaganda is so overwhelming that I either change the channel or find a container to vomit in. Soetorah’s apologists are in full cover up and/or damage control mode. There isn't a pretense of fairness or balance.

I'm trying to imagine the memos that the Osama Obama Dept of Disinformation sends out to various “sympathetic” news and opinion outlets. The Compost would surely get something like “the President is deeply disappointed by the Republicans’ failure to respect the clear will of the people”.Rachael Maddow,OTOH,would need to get nothing more than “David Koch is a stinky pants”.

I have often wondered why the addresses and home phone numbers of these nutjobs are not gathered and printed up somewhere.

As long as the IRS is targeting conservative groups Benen couldn’t care less.

She gets paid $7 million a year to entertain a few hardcore liberal viewers with a lot of liberal nonsense.
You can't say she's doing much damage (except to cable subscribers who are forced to pay for MSNBC!), because she has no viewership to speak of.
Nice work if you can get it.
