Doesn’t Blackberry have its own email server system, inaccessible to the user (and the IRS, and the IRS “backup” people)?

Actually, no. Her emails are on a Microsoft Exchange server system, the Blackberry has a server but it only routes the email through the Exchange server. It is not a stand alone mail server with its own database for storing messages.

Yeah, but in an unfortunate nuclear accident, the blackberry servers worldwide simultaneously melted down.

In other news...

Research In Motion (RIM), producer of the popular BlackBerry series of smartphones, just announced that their email servers have crashed, resulting in the loss of all user’s emails. The loss apparently goes back a number of years.

Details are sketchy, but RIM indicates this appears to be a true “crash” as the servers were located on the 27th floor of the RIM headquarters. The servers were actually shoved out of the windows and literally crashed to the ground 27 floors below, bursting into flames and burning beyond all hope of recovery. A fire captain at the scene indicated an accelerant may have been used to encourage the flames.
