The nephew in this case could have been picked up walking out of a convenience store by one or two officers. This kind of thing is needless and stupid. Cops involved in this need to face jail time.

Just like David Koresh could have been picked up in town, eliminating the need for the Waco raid. But where's the PR value in that?

Follow the money. Regardless of the intent of the law, regardless of the actual public good, what is actually happening is the cops are going for raids that look to maximize seizure revenue, while minimizing risk (both physical risk to the cops, and political risk to the politicians).

The inner city drug dealers are not the ones being targeted, for reasons listed earlier in this thread by me and others. The police depts are crying "We need military-grade equipment to go after the heavily armed drug gangs", but that never seems to happen. The police officers on the street are not stupid. They know better than to go after gang-connected drug dealers, when the gangs know (or can find out) where the cops live. The War on Drugs is a sham.
