This is happening too much. The end result of the War on Drugs is an increase in state power. The SWAT team resorted to military tactics to find a young person who might be doing drugs? Ridiculous. Aside from the injury to an innocent toddler, how much did this botched raid cost? There is nothing conservative about the War on Drugs.

We have lost the war on drugs, but it has lead to a disturbing militarization of our police forces. You are right, there is way too much of this going on.

What worries me is this level of violence is now the standard. Decades ago I used to talk to cops in the gym and the neighborhood. Now they act like a separate species. I feel like they’re looking at everybody as “them,” as in “not people like us.” I hope this is just a few negative experiences but I fear we’ve trained a new breed of cop who is does not see citizens as other human beings with rights.

We do not treat Iraqis like this; we do not treat Afganis like this. Troops who do, are tried for war crimes. Why are we letting our own citizens be treated this way? Why is SWAT now an integral part of any ‘drug’ bust, even a ‘small amount’? Where is the sheriff and why isn't he, and the folks who elected him, dealing with this dangerous trend?

All police involved should be fired...this is runaway authoritarian corruption. They believe they are above the law and they feel this child was simply collateral damage - despicable.

But if you run over to DU, they will all be in lockstep on “Big Government”. Somehow, it doesn’t get to them that a government big enough to give you everything you want, can not only take everything you have, but has you in its power and can absolutely drown and destroy you.
I’ve talked to libs about this and they are absolutely delusional about this. They are far more afraid of, say, Walmart, than of the government taking something from them. If you tell them, for instance, you were delayed almost a year from starting a business because of a government bureaucrat who had it out for you, it simply doesn’t compute. And yes, that happened to someone I know.
Watch these people complain about the power of the “police state”. Maybe they’ll get far. But for every one that does, a hundred just get run over.

This country is plagued with SWATs, and we need to make ending them a political issue. Free people shouldn’t stand for this kind of government brutality, much less support it.

Almost weekly there is a report of some armed attack by SWAT units somewhere that reads more like a report of confessional rural violence by some group like the Whiteboys or Ribbonmen in Ireland two hundred years ago than events in some suburban area in the US. Then when there is an event such as the mass shooting at the Washington Navy Yard where SWAT response is needed we see pictures of SWAT teams from a half dozen police agencies milling about the building where the shooter is at work until the shooting is over and only then will these Darth Vader like uniformed forces enter the building to tally up the casualties. We are told this is due to concern over ‘officer safety’. Pardon me? These heavily armed paramilitary gendarmes are supposed to be the ones who go in harms way. Instead they act like the SA on Crystal Night towards generally unarmed and unresisting citizens and cower like cowards before armed and crazed shooters. This is the essence of Anarcho-Tyranny.

Sadly, in line with prior comments I’ve made, this ‘raid’ was likely the result of ‘informant-squeezing’...another felon giving whatever info he can to get off a charge.
The judge that approved the warrant is as culpable as SWAT...

I heard my baby wailing and asked one of the officers to let me hold him. He screamed at me to sit down and shut up and blocked my view, so I couldnt see my son. I could see a singed crib. And I could see a pool of blood. The officers yelled at me to calm down and told me my son was fine, that hed just lost a tooth. It was only hours later when they finally let us drive to the hospital that we found out Bou Bou was in the intensive burn unit and that hed been placed into a medically induced coma.
Let's hear it again from the bootlickers how awesome the WOSD and SWAT teams are, and how these raids are NECESSARY???? This behavior alone should have the sheriff and judge who authorized the raid behind bars for life. Not to mention the stasi who carried it out. Wake the hell up America!!!

If I were a news reporter, I would at least make an attempt to get the cops' side of the story in situations like this.
What does the victim mean by "a small amount of drugs"? What's the scoop on the nephew or whomever it was they were looking for?
To: Clintonfatigued
So called war on drugs is a joke.
To: Clintonfatigued
The drug war is for no other purpose than police entertainment, training, etc.
