A lengthy profile of Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) was published in the June 30 issue of the New Yorker. The story, which was written by Jeffrey Toobin, begins with Cruz, an outspoken conservative who is widely considered a potential GOP candidate in the 2016 presidential election, explaining why he doesn't think a moderate Republican will win that race.
"It is amazing that the wisdom of the chattering class to the Republicans is always, always, always Surrender your principles and agree with the Democrats," Cruz told Toobin. "Thats been true for my entire lifetime. The chattering classes have consistently said, You crazy Republicans have to give up on what you believe and become more like Democrats. And, I would note, every time Republicans do that we lose."
According to Toobin Cruz cited Presidents Richard Nixon and Ronald Reagan as examples of conservatives who won elections and President Gerald Ford as a moderate who lost.
"President George Herbert Walker Bush ran as a strong conservative, ran to continue the third term of Ronald Reagan, continue the Ronald Reagan revolution," Cruz said. "Then he raised taxes and in 92 ran as an establishment moderatesame candidate, two very different campaigns. First one won, second one lost. In 1996, you got Bob Dole; 2000 and 2004, you have George W. Bush; 2008, John McCain; 2012, Mitt Romney. And what does the entire D.C. Republican consulting class say? In 2016, we need another establishment moderate! Hasnt worked in four decades. But next time will be the time!"
Later on in the story, Toobin questioned Cruz's theory.

I remember it very well.
The MSM called Florida for Gore at about 8 pm central time. The FL panhandle voters were still in line to vote, and that is/was a conservative district. There were reports that some voters left because of the long lines. It was assumed that Al Gore had won the presidency.
Similar tales came out of the western states where there was more support for the GOP. The way I figure it, the erroneous calling of the state of Florida for Gore so early cost Bush and Cheney thousands, maybe a million votes across the country.
Whether or not a “moderate Republican” can win isn’t the issue. The question we should be asking is will the new president undertake the task of restoring this country to its constitutional foundation? Even electing a “conservative Republican doesn’t guarantee that. It’s going to take someone real special to rein in the expansion of this government. Someone who hasn’t a problem saying NO!
I wish somebody would come up with a plan for that.
Because a ‘moderate republican’ lost the last two times...?
There is no plan to do that. They won’t even sell dying media properties to a conservative, they’d rather fold than see their newspapers or such sold to a conservative. Hollyweird and the TV industry refuses to hire conservatives and they would definitely never sell their networks and cable channels to a conservative.
If a cable channel is bought by a conservative somehow, you will see cable providers drop them from a line up and a national outcry of boycotts from the left.
A conservative cable channel would have to be pretty much supported by donations too. No major corporation is going to buy ads on it. Do you ever hear big companies advertising on talk radio these days?
