I never read the revisions, so I couldn't really say one way or the other. I was a 13 year old kid when, "The Gunslinger," came out in 1982, and eagerly awaited each sequel, reading them as they were published. IMHO, the series is by far and away King's best stuff, though some of the mythology is interwoven with his other non-Dark Tower fiction.

If you plan on reading the series, I would recommend picking up a copy of The Dark Tower Companion.

Okay, thanks. I didn’t know the Companion existed; I’ll have to pick one up.

I’ve read almost all of his novels, so I’m interested in seeing how the story relates to some of his other books.
