MADISON, Conn. - A Westbrook, Conn. woman faces assault charges after confronting a teenager who was using a drone to film above a beach.
Andrea Mears, 24, was charged with third-degree assault and breach of peace after an investigation into the May 12 encounter.
A video posted on the website Photography is Not a Crime shows the woman calling 17-year-old Austin Haughwout a pervert, striking him and ripping his shirt.
"You're assaulting me," Haughwout says in the video, according to CBS Connecticut.
Haughwout, of nearby Clinton, told reporters he had been using a remote-controlled drone to get footage of the landscape from about 50 feet above the beach when he was confronted by Mears.
"When she first came up I thought it was just someone calling the cops and I didn't think she would attack me," Haughwout said.
Mears could not be reached for comment on Tuesday. She told television reporters that Haughwout struck her first and edited that out of the Internet video, which was recorded on his cellphone.
Mears can be seen in the video calling police and demanding that Haughwout stop using the drone. The teen can be seen moving some of the equipment before the camera starts shaking and he begins yelling that he is being assaulted.
"Maybe you shouldn't be taking pictures of people on the beach," Mears says in the video.

There was a time when the ONLY way to see a nude (or even scantily clad) woman in most places was by peeping.
Communists are just like NAMBLA....makes me sick...
Yep. Agreed.
I admire people who have the ability and courage to expose these bums.
Same happened to me. I was sitting in my pick-up truck at the local library waiting to pick up my daughter who was getting tutored in math at the time. I had just purchased a new Canon 60-D and was just sitting in my truck. . trying different settings and taking a few photos.
The next thing I know, I look up and there is an officer standing at my window wanting to know what I was up to. So, I explain the situation and assured him I wasn't a pervert. He said the lady over there said I was taking pictures of her child. . .I said, "huh?!". . I look at the lady and I have to say, she had all the markings of a total devoted Lib with her cropped hair, round glasses and her SUV with the OBAMA stickers still proudly displayed.
She just saw a guy in a RED pick-up with a camera and she just starting salivating because she was sure that this guy had to be a conservative, Tea Party PERVERT!!! I just smiled. . . but she was angry. .VERY angry.
Too bad they didn’t have these when I was a kid. The neighbors mom was hot and liked to sun bath (at least in my dreams).
Creepy
It’s a very interesting site, for sure...
Similarities between them too...

If you scroll through the comments below the video on the site, you see an interesting mix of lefty outrage and Patriot folk defending him...
They hate exposure ... it’s like spraying bleach on mold.
Follow the link in my post #29 for the full story and video of the beat down.
The police told him that he was doing nothing illegal and can continue to fly his drone.
Think of it this way - what if a TV News helicopter flew over the beach taking a video?
Same thing, isn't it?
So? It's a public beach. He can look at women if he wants.
Some women think they have the power to control who looks at them in a public space. They don't. They may WANT it to be the case that only men who they themselves find attractive should be allowed to look at them, but that isn't the case.
Watch the video and you’ll discover your presumption is absurd.
I forgot to mention, the first time this story was posted on FR there was also a link to the footage from the drone. The portions that go over the beach show very few people and from an altitude and speed that make individuals nearly impossible to pick out.
The kid was doing nothing “perverted” at all as far as I can see.
All liberals, but especially democrat politicians, Hollywood elites and other lefty entertainers, think their right to privacy is sacrosanct but everyone else's
life should be an open book to be scanned, probed, prodded, groped, recorded and taped by the government 24/7/365.
So?
All the more reason to expose their hypocrisy...
So what if he is? There is no presumption of privacy in a public space.
Plus, the kid was doing nothing illegal. It's a public space and if you do not want to be seen there simply choose not to be there.
What's she going to do next? Start throwing acid into the faces of males she sees ogling a pretty girl walking down the sidewalk? At least one of these angry female loons has already done so, as I recall.
