President Barack Obama will announce his intention to send 100 Green Berets into Iraq to help train and advise the Iraqi military this afternoon, a U.S. official told the Associated Press.

The Special Forces will not be there to engage in combat and Obama still has no plans to engage Islamic insurgents in Iraq militarily, AP says.

Obama is expected to make statement on the matter within in the hour after he concludes a meeting with his national security advisers.

We’ve been ‘training’ the Iraqi national army now for how many years? Now all of the sudden 100 Green Berets on a “training mission” are supposed to stem the tide? Seems like a band-aid on an arterial wound.

Advisers had been in Vietnam for many years before JFK, in fact even in the 1940s, and it is part of what Army Special Forces does and is doing all over the globe, it was the 16,000 troops that he sent in, that was JFK’s change.

Yeah, but since Obama stated today that we wouldn’t be favoring one Islamic sect over another,

these guys must be there to train both sides.
