GOP fury after report claims IRS 'recycled' Lerner hard drive

The top Republican on one of the House committees investigating the IRS targeting scandal reacted furiously late Wednesday to a report that ex-IRS official Lois Lerner's hard drive had been recycled, making it likely that many emails sent to and from Lerner prior to the summer of 2011 will never be recovered.

The Politico report cited two anonymous sources, as well as Sen. Orrin Hatch, R-Utah, who confirmed that the Senate Finance Committee had been told that the hard drive had been discarded.

"If the IRS truly got rid of evidence in a way that violated the Federal Records Act and ensured the FBI never got a crack at recovering files from an official claiming a Fifth Amendment protection against self-incrimination, this is proof their whole line about 'losing' e-mails in the targeting scandal was just one more attempted deception," House Oversight and Government Reform Committee chairman Darrell Issa, R-Calif., said in a statement. "Official records, like the e-mails of a prominent official, don't just disappear without a trace unless that was the intention."

Simple solution. Any government employee who accesses any private email account from a government computer is frog-marched out.

“and don't forget that they were too busy taking copyright protections away from a privately held company as well.”

Yep, and remember they confiscated what they said was rare protected wood from a Major guitar manufacturer he in the US and Turns out it wasn't? Nothing but more harassment of another successful business.

They know they are at war. Do we? Until we jail all the people, even lowly techies and the guys who carried these to the techies we won’t get answers. Bring them all in, let them talk or languish in jail until they do.

Let me state the obvious: The Republicans need to get some knowledgeable IT people to help them question the IRS IT people about the IRS email systems. How hard is that?

Not going to happen. Boehner and the rest of the evil GOPe do NOT want the IRS investigated.. The IRS set out to destroy the Tea Party -- Boehner is happy with the IRS actions.

We must first politically destroy the GOPe before we can go after the Marxists.

Its called a network operations center...and all Blackberry email traffic goes through it. I don’t know for a fact that the files are also stored, but why wouldn’t they be?

When I used a Blackberry, I had to wipe it clean and re-install the OS twice. Weirdly, after each time I did this, my ‘wiped’ Blackberry would gradually get back all of my customizations...ringtones, screensaver, etc. This could only happen if the operations center had saved my settings. So if they are saving each device’s settings, I can’t imagine they aren’t also saving emails.

They destroyed public documents?

I believe that’s a crime.

They didn’t back up public documents?

I believe that’s a crime.

Threaten everyone you can with the maximum penalty by law. Someone in this rogue’s gallery will start talking.

I’m guessing that’s the real problem. Someone gave permission for these dirtbagz to use their personal computers to hide oficial business and that “someone”is scared crapless. But the other half of the emails is still on gummint servers. Personal or not the law requiring traceability is liable to bite somebody in the butt. In a former life I did occasional audits on gummint record keeping and no one dared tell me that they couldn’t find the paper. Doing so could start a criminal prosecution first thing Monday morning.

At this point the Regime could start executing every registered Republican in the country. Congress would do nothing. The press would not report it. What’s to stop them?

When you have old men like Hatch in congress and others who have aides turn on their computers for them, you can say “The computer shredded all the emails” and they’ll believe it.

servo1969..........in the Nixon case there were 18-1/2 minutes missing on the hours of Oval Office tapes. This probably constituted 1 meeting.

In the Lerner case it encompasses 2 years (365 days) which constituted probably 56,000 electronic meetings (email).

They should notify and insist that Holder appoint a special prosecutor NOW or the House will impeach him on January 20th 2015 for obstruction of justice because he has a conflict of interest in the case since there is know email of the Justice Department corresponding with Lerner about deriving criminal charges against the applicants of the 401-c-4’s

The Administration knows the fact that the RECYCLING of these disks will create a firestorm and would, I’m sure, like to avoid it, but to proceed anyway not merely suggests but in reality is Prima Facie evidence that there is something terribly incriminating on those emails likely leading to the White House and strongly possible the Oval Office.

This is not just about having a conscience. I fully believe they have been threatened (remember Katherine Wiley when walking her dog at night and was approached by a jogger with a threat).

I believe the reason Petraeus hasn’t stood up and spoken of the truth about what the CIA knew in Benghazi is he has been threatened with even more incriminating
personal information.

but it stands to reason that orders the crashed hard drive should have been saved since the owner was involved in an investigation. According to the behavior of the IRS and Federal government they are not operating under the same laws we are.
