More people driving than ever and still they cannot get enough money from the gas taxes. Says something about the problem right there.....the problem is and always will be government.

Congress raids the highway fund to fund non highway related projects. Throw the BUMS out.

Make them pay for all of the perks they now get for free. The tax on gasoline wouldn’t be such a good idea then.
Arrogant idiots.

Perhaps an increased tax, applied in a revenue-neutral manner--which is to say, with an offsetting tax decrease of some sort--would not be such a bad idea. But a tax increase, absent a tax decrease of a similar amount elsewhere, is not a good thing--to put it mildly.

What is the matter with the voters of TN, repeatedly electing Corker? It can’t be his oratory, given his nasal twang.

Electric bills are through the roof.

And these two hacks want to raise gas taxes?
They are so out of touch. Get rid of them both.

The timing couldn’t be better—tack on a new gas tax just as gas prices explode thanks to the Iraq debacle.

CAFE standards are ruining the viability of the gas tax as a road funding mechanism. I think the government should repeal the last two rounds of increases, but I wouldn’t hold my breath on that one.

I was thinking that with the current price of gas and so many people out of work that they were getting less revenue due to less gas consumption. Maybe not.

I can see a Northeastern ‘Rat being for this, or even an urbanite from either party who suffers from the delusion that what’s good for his city is good for the country, being for this, but what the h*ll is a Republican from Tennessee doing backing this misbegotten pile of rubbish?

Here’s the alternative to a gas tax - paying 40 CENTS PER MILE to drive. This is a privately-owned toll road in Canada. The government there cut a CRONY CAPITALIST deal with the private company and they are allowed to charge AS MUCH AS THEY WANT.
http://www.407etr.com/tolls/rate-chart-2014.html
For a car that gets 25 miles per gallon, this comes out to an equivalent gas tax of 10 DOLLARS PER GALLON.
Sorry, but I’d pay pay 12 cents extra, per gallon.

Including gas and tolls, it costs me almost $70 just to drive back and forth to Miami for a simple sales call. I only live 75 miles away. Yeah - let’s jack that up even further. That will help the economy. Idiots.
