Over the weekend, members of the Taliban "cut the fingers off 11 Afghan's who...[voted in the June 14] presidential run-off poll."
Taliban attacks also "killed more than 50 people." According to BBC News, the Taliban warned people not to vote because both candidates--"former Foreign Minister Abdullah Abdullah and former Finance Minster Ashraf Ghani Ahmadzai"--want closer ties to the West.
Both candidates also said they would "sign a delayed security pact allowing nearly 10,000 U.S. troops to remain in the country" for two more years.
The fingers were cut off "in western Herat province."
