California lawmakers are considering the creation of an ammunition registry that will require ammunition purchasers to go through a background check--including fingerprinting--and obtain an "ammunition purchaser permit" before getting ammo.
The registry is contained in Senate Bill 53, which passed in the California Assembly Public Safety Committee 5-2 on June 12.
According to the NRA-ILA: "If passed and enacted into law, SB 53 would require the collection and reporting of personal consumer information and thumbprinting for all ammunition purchases throughout the state. It would also ban online and mail-order sales of all ammunition, including hunting and collectible ammunition."
Additionally, SB 53 would require ammunition purchasers to "register with the Department of Justice" and "obtain a costly ammunition purchaser permit that must be renewed every two years."

But the same aholes howl that voter ID is a financial burden.

California entered the list of states where I could not survive years ago. It’s a shame, other than their politics, a lovely state.

Being an avid reloader, I wonder how this would apply to individual components like brass and primers and powder.
I have 1000s of rounds of various caliber and its nobody’s business how much I have. Its especially none of the governments business how much I have.

This is the backdoor to bypass fed registration.
Ammo w/o a gun is pointless.
If they can register all ammo, they KNOW who has the guns.

I wouldn’t want to live or even visit Calif. run by a bunch of crazies.
Hmmm... governmental prohibition of an easily concealed, easily manufactured, easily smuggled, high-demand consumable.
That worked so well with alcohol and drugs. Why not try it with ammo?
ALL law enforcement officers would have to comply, also.
Pennsylvania has alcohol sales being a state operation. People tend to buy their wine and whiskey across the border. PA has people recording license plates of people who parked at NJ and Delaware liquor stores just across the river from Philadelphia, and would stop them at the toll booth, inspect their cars, and fine them.
I would imagine California would be even more draconian with respect to out-of-state ammo purchases.
You would need to park a couple of blocks away and pay cash.

At this point 22's are becoming collectible.
It would be real difficult in the I15 corridor to Vegas...too much space between the state line and the gun stores in Las Vegas. Besides, the gun shops in LV don’t care where you’re from, as long as you’re of legal age.
The CA state FASCISTS would have to get consent to search just about every vehicle crossing back in from NV if the were on the hunt for ammunition...what would be the probable cause for thousands of vehicles daily?
Reno on the other hand, may be more of a possibility, but I’m not too familiar with the lay of the land up there.
The issue here is the violation of privacy, the registration...I’d drive 500 miles to purchase ammunition and avoid having my name in some FASCIST database...that’s where the market is.
LV and points East of CA are going to see a noticeable uptick in ammunition sales, while CA will see a noticeable downturn.
Take 395 south out of Reno and drive the “free” part of CA, where Inyo, Mono, and like-minded counties don’t give a darn about the stupid gun laws. Be careful though, CHiPs are about every 10-20 miles from the boarder to Lee Vining/Mammoth.
Thanks for the tip, I drive the 395 on occassion as I do quite a bit of hiking on the Eastern side of the Sierras.
Californians can just buy their ammunition in Nevada and Arizona.
Hate to say, but they need to avoid the Cabela’s outside Reno because the California Highway Patrol is already known to cruise the parking lot and take pictures of cars with California license plates.

Heh....we go to June Lake Loop every year to fish for golden trout. I carry a gun with me all the time due to very naughty black bears near campsites. They are NOT afraid of people.
Step 1: Cover CA license plate or remove it. Better yet, get a rental car and insist on out of state plates.(I mean if your are going to get pulled over in NV, it is at least ONLY a minor moving violation.
Step 2: Buy copious amounts of ammo.
Step 3: Know your rights and put everything in the trunk since it is not subject to a Terry search. DO NOT CONSENT to a search without a warrant describing the location to be searched (trunk) and items to be thought illegal (ammo).
Step 4: Keep your mouth shut.
