Reports are starting to show up on Twitter of explosions in the International Zone in Baghdad, aka the Green Zone. It is about 2:15 a.m. in Baghdad, IIRC.
#BREAKING assaults beginning in Green Zone, #Baghdad. #ISIS sleeper cells activated! #Iraq #Iran
#BreakingNews Huge explosions are now reported inside the Green Zone in #Baghdad. #ISIS #Iraq
.@AllMilitaryNews Not me; it is the Iraqi state TV who reported that..
TWEET:
Report:50 to 100 US Military have arrived at US Embassy in Baghdad
I read somewhere else that the “Enhanced” Embassy security staff was 100 people. For an area the size of the Vatican.
"It's above my paygrade"
....Barak H. Obama August 16, 2008
“Between 50 and 100 US Marines and Army personnel arrive at US Embassy in Baghdad” ............................... Yeah, just what the Dems need, another Alamo with no help in site. Be ready here it comes; “Forget the other scandals we have to be united behind the President now now.” Should we help our troops trapped there? Of course it all depends on how available our great leader will be, he may be out fund raising or playing golf.
Terry Moran of ABC says he has heard that Taji has fallen, the largest military base and hardware depot in Iraq.
Interesting times.
Cant unite behind him. He golfs private courses and they wont let us in.
Tie up the Shia militias north of Baghdad and enter through the Sunni dominated West. BTW this is not being orchestrated by some hoodlum terrorists.
Yup, there is a force that has planned this, but who is it, is not clear.......revenge of the Baathists, Parts of Saddams family has apparently been seen in North Iraq last few days
Embassy evacuation, The NYT never disappoints
” Some referred to the diplomatic ambitions as the greatest American aid effort since the Marshall Plan. This included an expensive police training program, which cost hundreds of millions of dollars.”

Looks like I’ll FINALLY get my money back on my Oil investment. I figured it was only a matter of time, given the Middle East.
And I'm sure we have the perfect Sec. of State for the current situation.
“That’s why we sent a carrier into the Gulf.”
Did they make it there in time?
Andrew Neil (Chairman Spectator Magazines (London); ITP Magazines (Dubai); World Media Rights (New York). BBC presenter.) reports via twitter.....
Major-General Qassem Suleimani, leader of Irans elite Quds force, is now running operations, say Iraqi officials.
and that should strike a icy chill down everyones back...Iraq has effectively handed themselves over to Iran....
Obama really is a genius.
It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to see this will be heading to Kuwait and then Saudi Arabia. QED
That picture of traitor Kerry caught me off guard.
The reason being, take a look at the guy sitting right behind him clapping. It looks like a younger version of Bergdahl’s father.
There will be always someone's boots on the ground. The plan was that Iraq's soldiers will be those boots, as the USA can't and shouldn't be policing the whole world. But Iraqis did the usual thing for a 3rd world army: they ran away.
Thinking of that, why shouldn't they run away? I don't know how they were educated and trained; but usually a soldier is willing to fight an enemy who is going to conquer your country and kill your family. In this case it's a war not against the entire people of Iraq, but against the government of Iraq - and that government is not particularly loved by the people; it's tolerated, but as we see its employees (the soldiers) aren't willing to lift a finger to protect those faraway politicians. What we are seeing here was seen many times before, all over the world. A common man has no dog in this fight, and it is always better to allow the bosses and their condottieri to fight it out amongst themselves. This is why Iraq's army is not fighting - because it's not their war. The people of Iraq are in no danger. Whoever wins, Shiites or Sunni, Iraq will be still there, and the businesses will open as usual.
All flights apparently stopped at Baghdad International Airport after rocket attack- staff have fled.
Don’t blame them.
That was the first thing I thought too...
