Who'd a thunk it? I've become my Father, if not my Grandfather. When I was three years old living with my Gavin Family in Aldan, PA, my Uncle Joe Gavin and Uncle Tom Gavin would ride me all around the region in their big old Hudson convertibles. After a few trips, I knew the way to the places we frequented and they would ask me for directions, which I gave them freely - Lord help them if they took a wring turn!
When Mary studied at St. Joe's in Philly, as my Dad did before, I went over some of the old ways - I still remember them 60 years later. Those Gavin Uncles were second Fathers to me - both gone to their rewards - I think often of them and raise my glass to them this Fathers Day!
Happy 239th Birthday To The
United States Army!
Then its hi! hi! hey! The Armys on its way. Count off the cadence loud and strong;
For whereer we go, You will always know That The Army Goes Rolling Along."
