Iran has deployed two battalions of the Quds Forces, an elite overseas branch of its Revolutionary Guard Corps, to fight the jihadists that have overrun several Iraqi cities. Iran, a Shiite state, is throwing its weight behind Baghdads Shiite prime minister in the fight against ISIS, a Sunni group. Together, the Iraqi-Iranian forces have taken back control of 85 percent of Tikrit, the birthplace of Saddam Hussein. The forces are helping guard Baghdad, Najaf, and Karbala, which have been targeted by the Islamic State of Iraq and the Sham, an al Qaeda offshoot that has thrown the country into turmoil. Iran has also promised to bomb rebel forces if they come within 100 kilometers of the Iran-Iraq border.

“On the return of the Caliphate, 74 percent of Pakistanis, 71 percent of Moroccans and 67 percent of Egyptians agree with al-Qaeda.36 Even Indonesia, at 49 percent, still claims a powerful plurality in favor of a caliphate.37 Because Islamic law matters to Muslims, in the WOT, it should also matter to us.”

"Petrodollar refers to either a United States dollar earned by a country through the sale of its petroleum (oil) to another country,[1] or the system by which the United States props up the relative value of its currency on the world market by requiring that oil producing nations trade their product on the world market exclusively in dollars.

What would be the value of the dollar if oil producers did not insist oil was purchased with US dollars?
Can you imagine if the Methodists and Baptists started a civil war like this?
They are savages. We should simply build a wall around them and let them all kill each other. Once a year we could open it up and let those who are sick of it just leave.
Yep. Centuries of philosophical differences re-awaken when their commonality against the invading infidel no longer occupies their thoughts.
Shades of Vietnam invading Cambodia to get rid of Pol Pot.
The eternal Sunni-Shiite conflict is behind so much that goes on in the Middle East/Iran.
So even though the Saudi Arabia Sunni rulers fear the Jihadist-ISIS they backed them in Syria because they were fighting Assad who is an Iranian thus Shiite ally. This same ISIS is now taking back Sunni areas from the weak Malaki Shiite rule emanating out of Baghdad. This northern Sunni area of Mosul has oil wells to finance this new ISIS trans Iraq-Syria government.
ISIS has backhoes and bulldozers demolishing border markers on the Iraq-Syria line as part of them proclaiming they are a transnational Islamic Jihad movement intent on re-establishing the transnational Caliphate
Precisely why we need to drill drill drill, so we can extricate ourselves from that god-forsaken part of the world.
Lemme get this straight, 1500 Iranians are helping retake Kirkuk while also helping to defend Baghdad, Najaf and Al Kut?
Lol.
The Karbala and Najaf Shia aren’t particularly fond of the Iranians. They still remember the mess the Mahdi made of their cities 10 years ago.
Well, Catholic/Protestant civil wars have an old history. Look at Northern Ireland for a conflict that extended into modern days.
