In a stunning upset propelled by tea party activists, House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-Va.) was defeated in Tuesdays congressional primary, with insurgent David Brat delivering an unpredicted and devastating loss to the second most powerful Republican in the House who has widely been touted as a future speaker.

By seniority, i mean more in terms of leadership roles rather than age. Otherwise Ralph Hall would be... oh actually no, forget that.
McCarthy is the whip currently, so after Bohner and Cantor, he’s the standard-bearer in the House for the Republicans, and an incredibly weak, soft-spoken one at that.
Fox’s Perino now wanting McMorris Rodgers to fill Cantor’s role. NO THANKS!
Correct, on all counts!
Probleeeh Barrakus will do an Executive Order, as he threatened already, but held out since Boehner and Cantor were carrying the water for him in the House, making noises that amnesty would get legislated this mid summer.
I am in charge of this company after all, I am the Head of Lettuce.
BTTT!
“Problem is, Brat doesnt have a lot of money and you know that the GOPe isnt going to get behind him cash-wise...”
Silly, he will be fine with YOUR and MY contributions. And when push comes to shove the GOP-E will shell out.
Succumbs?
He got crushed by Brat.
There is no such national political group named the “Tea Party”! Whoever ignorantly proclaims themselves a “leader” of the Tea Party, you can discount them out of hand as an outright liar.
The Tea Party, of which I am a proud member, is nothing more and nothing less than a nationwide grass roots movement of individual USA citizens firmly taking responsibility, duty and control over our local, state and federal level elected government representatives, and also taking back our country as free men and women.
We, the people, are not very popular with the professional political class, and their idiotic pseudo partisan “teams”, but we vastly outnumber them, and we can't be easily bought off or intimidated.
We don't elect “leaders”, we elect representatives.
Fail to faithfully represent US, and we will toss your faithless ass to the curb.
The Tea Party is growing larger every day! We know we have a Republic that is in danger of failing, and we want to keep it, and are willing to fight for it. I really don't care if that scares the hell out of the current corrupt government system. They should live in fear of us. They should never have lost their "fear" of we, the people of the USA. That's how and why they became corrupt.
I love that. And I’m so happy my kid made sure her kid was born in VA. Many generations on his dad’s side. Just like I made sure she was born in the big apple. Eh, that’s a little garbled, but I hope you follow me!
I live in the 7th district of Virginia. local Tea Party groups were instrumental in Dave Brat’s win. Dave did not have much support outside the state.
“So, who will be the new Majority Leader (or Speaker for that matter, God willing)?”
I’m going with a Texan.
Doubt that there was a lot, there was extremely low turnout for this election. Tea Party won this with ground game and motivated voters.
Hope so!
Fascinating too that the Democrat (Jack Trammel) in this race is also a professor at Randolph-Macon...a prof of sociology (read into that what you will). Look forward to the debates.
Not how it works in SC. They could run as many candidates as possible. They just had to keep Grahamnesty under 50%. Then the challenger with the most votes would go into a run-off with him. They could not gather enough support between them to keep Linda under 50%. Yes, as it was an open primary, maybe having dems cross over and vote for him made that a more difficult task. But obviously, no one caught on and Linda wasn’t making the mistake of reminding everyone just what a liberal amnesty lover s/he really is.
You’re in VA? Who is the “nutcase” dem? I thought Cantor’s seat was unopposed by the dems.
Obama hated Cantor
Thanks for the clarification.
Yep, Linda is a slick one.
FYI-Here in Colo. the two Republicans (Gardner and Buck)running for US Senate got together and decided who would be best to go up against RAT Udall. They did the right thing and Gardner should beat Udall. Buck is running for the US House and will also beat the RAT in that race.
HOORAY Virginia! Congratulations David Brat.
