U.S. Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl has told people treating him at an American military medical facility in Germany that he was tortured, beaten and held in a cage by his Taliban captors in Afghanistan after he tried to escape, a senior U.S. official said Sunday.
The official spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to discuss what Bergdahl has revealed about the conditions of his captivity. The New York Times first reported on the matter.
The official said it was difficult to verify the accounts Bergdahl has given since his release a week ago.

Military doctors at the Landstuhl Regional Medical Center say that while Bergdahl is physically able to travel he's not yet emotionally prepared to be reunited with his family. He has not yet spoken to his family.

That’s the price yo pay for leaving the relative safety of a US military compound and willfully wandering into the hands of America’s barbaric enemies.
...poor little filthy islamist Traitor.
He was only allowed to catch, not pitch.
He was tortured? What did they do, force him to watch a Michael Bay movie? “OK Infidel, you will watch Transformers again and again..”
Gee, this unnamed official leaked this little tidbit to the New York Times. I'm sure the administration is furious about this "leak!"
Is the writer dumb enough to think people are not goin g to remeber it was the other way around, i.e the servicemen raised the cry first.
They made him drink tepid water with no lemon wedge and forced him to eat his cornflakes with 1/2% milk
What did he expect? He’s lucky they did not chop off his head.
If I go into the woods without a gun looking for the bear, my expectation is to end up as bear scat.
well what did he expect? sheesh these idiots
oh yeah, poor misunderstood Taliban, if I am nice to them, they will be nice to me
what an idiot
The Administration is determined to make a hero out of Bergdhal. They will have him declared a prisoner of war which will give him special status along with special benefits.
All that badminton and green tea would break lesser men than Bergdahl, if there is such a thing as a lesser man than Bergdahl.
“Little Bo Peep lost his sheep, and he didn’t know where to find them.”
Nice story kid, but it needs work.
He deserted and went looking for the enemy, then tried to escape-I guess he wasn’t pleased with the accommodations or whatever-and he was surprised when he was beaten and caged when they caught him? Did he think he could desert to the enemy, then change his mind and run off on a whim?
That’s just their ciltural tradition. I hope Bergdahl is not complaining about it. That would be culturally insensitive of him.
He was leaking more than intel.
An anonymous source goes to the NYTimes and hands them a convenient “quote” from the Berg-man to help alleviate the stinging pain and backlash that Obama is getting on this.
Sure, I, like, totally believe this new and improved story “leaked” to the NY Times. Sure. [sarcasm alert]
Not the point. Dems are determined to make him the argument instead of Obama’s treason. No matter why Obama turned five terrorists loose it was treason.
Don’t let them make this guy the issue or we’re going to lose. When they print stories like this we need to personalize one of the guys who died for him. Show their hopes, dreams, families. But stick to the real issue, no deal was worth turning dangerous terrorists loose on America.
He was coached by “the people who are coming to see you,” in the words of his father to him. The administration has tried every approach so far and now they’re hoping the poor widdle Bowe meme will win.
Did they torture him by making him lose at badminton? Or not sharing their goat with him?
There have been a gusher of obama admin “leaks” to the NYT regarding Bergdahl. Shockingly all favorable to Team Kenya.
