Bowe Bergdahl at one point during his captivity converted to Islam, fraternized openly with his captors and declared himself a "mujahid," or warrior for Islam, according to secret documents prepared on the basis of a purported eyewitness account and obtained by Fox News. The reports indicate that Bergdahl's relations with his Haqqani captors morphed over time, from periods of hostility, where he was treated very much like a hostage, to periods where, as one source told Fox News, "he became much more of an accepted fellow" than is popularly understood. He even reportedly was allowed to carry a gun at times.

The issue that NO ONE is talking about is that when you join the military your life is forfeit in any given situation. It's in the contract. Bergdahl was subject to capture and torture and death, as all captured grunts are. Too bad 6 other soldiers died because of his decision.
The concept of "no one left behind" is BS. Yes, in battle you try to carry the casualties off the battlefield. But if captured, bummer...and you don't negotiate with terrorists and release 5 high profile Taliban for the life of a soldier who knew he could die by joining the Army. Shit happens.
Hell, I was a simple sailor and our ship went dead in the water and almost capsized in heavy seas. So what? I signed on to that threat. I also almost got cut in half by a Ch-53 tail rotor when the LSE launched it prematurely as I was running across the flight deck to fuel another helo. So what if I had been cut in half? I volunteered for such duty - no draft.
Not saying sailors have as biggest threat as grunts, but we all sign on to potential death from enemies. That's the risk everyone takes when joining the military.
