Bowe Bergdahl at one point during his captivity converted to Islam, fraternized openly with his captors and declared himself a "mujahid," or warrior for Islam, according to secret documents prepared on the basis of a purported eyewitness account and obtained by Fox News. The reports indicate that Bergdahl's relations with his Haqqani captors morphed over time, from periods of hostility, where he was treated very much like a hostage, to periods where, as one source told Fox News, "he became much more of an accepted fellow" than is popularly understood. He even reportedly was allowed to carry a gun at times.

Bergdahl was a clear cut deserter. We know that, and there is really, IMHO, little doubt about it.
I also believe he sought out the Taliban...actively and of his own volition when he deserted.
For that he should be court martialed and spend 15-20 years at Leavenworth.
Apparently after getting to the Taliban...actually it was another group...after quite some time he tried to escape, and was successful at least once in June 2010. He was caught and put in a cage.
We did not know this part before.
Later, in 2012, there are reports of him converting to Islam and saying he was now a Warrior of Islam. But:
1) They have not been verified.
2) We do not know why he did so. Was it Stockholm Syndrome?
3) We do not know what he did with/for them.
I believe we must let the process work through an Article 32 and then a court martial to figure the details of this thing.
I believe there is little or no doubt about the desertion though, and for that he must be brought to account.
If it is found that he willingly converted to and joined the enemy...then he could face the death penalty for that. However, I think that unlikely now, if in fact it is shown that he did make efforts to escape...and in fact got loose on one occasion for five days...and then was mistreated for it.
The one in the middle was his “ex” wife.
