A U.S. Army investigation found that Bowe Bergdahl had walked away from his post at least once before his capture - and that other soldiers in his unit knew he was a flight risk.
The 2010 report, called an AR15-6, is still classified, but it appears to confirm allegations that the former prisoner of war violated military regulations - and that the Pentagon knew it all along.
The revelation, attributed to anonymous sources by the Military Times, comes as the nation's top general, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Martin Dempsey, acknowledged the growing cloud of suspicion hanging over Bergdahl.
The Military Times report says that investigators who looked into the June 2009 capture of Bergdahl found that several soldiers from his unit said he had talked openly about wanting to leave the forward operating base where he was stationed.
They found he may have left the base at least once before, as well.
'We have no indication that he intended to leave permanently,' an official told the Military Times.
However, a different source described as a former senior military official, told the New York Times that Bergdahl left a startling note in his tent saying that he no longer supported the Army mission in Afghanistan and that he was leaving to start a new life.
Even amid the mounting evidence that Bergdahl left his post, military law experts told the Military Times that it was unlikely Bergdahl would be court martialed and imprisoned....

14 men died and many were wounded looking for him.
RE: In basic combat training I talked with a neo-Nazi who had joined to learn small unit weapons & tactics for his fascist group. The Army had sniffed him out and had him painting murals in the orderly room (he wasnt half-bad in a primitive way) before giving him his bad conduct discharge.
So, to make a long story short, Bergdahl was an Islamist sympathizer joining the US army to learn about its tactics and strategies in order to later help the Jihadis with the information he gathered?
If so, Why wasn’t he sniffed out in the beginning?
You have to be looking for something to find it, in most cases. Have you seen who the president is these days? He can recite the call to prayer better than most imams.
"And it turned out he didn't, right?" he continued. "I mean, sure, we had to send back the Taliban prisoners, a boxcar full of weapons, a few bars of gold, and a DVD collection of 0bama speeches and Lady Gaga dance numbers, but it was worth it."
The rose garden grab ass photo op was a big mistake. Brother Rat owns this one!
They can't be bothered with petty matters like the Constitution and national security. They have bigger fish to fry in this mid-term election year -- defeating the Tea Party.
Right... so he could go and live in the mountains!
Do you happen to have that photo?
I though when they first starting about that guy on T V they were calling him Birddog. LOL
If I do I will be sure to bring a flashlight ... or two.
In a war zone, even! Guess we are wasting a lot of money on combat pay, if they have so much freedom to come and go in these foreign countries. HA
No need to. There’s plenty of light over here.
“...the father’s Arabic salute to Allah in the Rose Garden while Obama beamed even before the translation was made...”
BHO2 doesn’t need a translator. He speaks and understands a number of languages: Indonesian, English, Arabic, and Pashto (the language used in parts of Afghanistan and Pakistan).
Was the military so desperate for soldiers that it kept baby-sitting this weirdo after his first attempt at deserting? Really .who is leading our military now? It certainly isn’t the caliber of the brass that won WW II. It doesn’t inspire much confidence in this most expensive military in the history of the planet.
He was homeschooled by mama...but didn't get his GED until he was 20.
There was plenty known about Afghanistan, the people and the troops by the time he joined.
I'd go back to when he tried to sign up for the Foreign Legion (Who does that?)
Then see if there are any comments when he did sign up. You just have to track him. He's another Richard ??? (forgot).
Remember Major Hassan?
The rose garden grab ass photo op was a big mistake. Brother Rat owns this one!
What was that all about?
Military intelligence is an oxymoron....
But I digress. Leaving the first time is certainly at least an Article 15 offense and deserves at least a demotion and a black mark on one’s record. Not an example of “dedicated” service.
Considering various tweets and e-mails, that in itself would be enough to get most anybody confined to post and relieved of duty.
Military intelligence detected Major Hassan once he started shooting, and then immediately called in the local police to handle the situation.
