Bowe Bergdahl, U.S. soldier held by Taliban, was "ashamed to be American," emails show

(AP) WASHINGTON - Emails an American soldier reportedly sent to his parents before he was captured by the Taliban three years ago suggest he was disillusioned and considering deserting.

Bowe Bergdahl told his parents he was "ashamed to even be American" and was disgusted with the U.S. mission in Afghanistan and with the Army, according to emails quoted in Rolling Stone magazine.

Bergdahl, a 26-year-old Army sergeant from Hailey, Idaho, was taken prisoner on June 30, 2009, in Afghanistan.

The military has never detailed circumstances of his disappearance or capture, and he is not classified as a deserter. He was initially listed as "duty status unknown" and is now considered "missing-captured." He is the only U.S. prisoner of war from the Afghanistan conflict, and U.S. officials say they are actively trying to free him.

This addition to the story has me coinflicted - it happened under Zero's "command". Perhaps he tired of being offered up for target practice w/o the right to shoot back. Of course, it's also possible he was a Bush-hater holdover and just prone to hating America - perhaps he needs someone even to the left of Zero before he can feel proud of America for the first time.

Gosh, I hate it when we keep getting a mish-mash of facts/stories; I still don't know what happened to the plane, whether to like/hate/be tolerant of a Snowden, or even if Hillary and Obama were lucid during Benghazi. It all gets so dang confusing...

IMHO......Obama has jumped the shark and done a USA turncoat act...putting all Americans in danger of enemy kidnapping across the world. I will lay back and watch this story unfold....for I believe there is much within it, that most Americans will not like or believe that our government did this illegal action. Desertion in a war zone is a capital offense. Obummer used this dirt-bag as an excuse to turn loose the worst of the worst Gitmo Al Queda while he lets the honorable Marine in Mexico rot away. He does this intentionally which makes him guilty of treason against the U.S., another capital offense.

When he first “was captured,” the reports said he left the encampment in the dead of night alone. After being with the enemy for five years, has he changed his mind about America?

But no matter, he gave El Bozo an opportunity to take attention from the VA scandal, as well as the opportunity to release FIVE Taliban generals, who will be back in Afghanistan running the new government when Obama bugs out. So it’s a win-win for Obama, and the lapdog media will cover this fiasco as though he is Pres. Reagan.

and did you notice that during his speech, Obama said that this proves that America never leaves its uniformed personnel behind. So that was the problem in Benghazi. The ambassador, his assistant and the 2 CIA operatives weren’t wearing uniforms.

For one, the Obama administration failed to notify Congress 30 days in advance, as U.S. law requires, that it was transferring the five Taliban detainees from Guantanamo. U.S. officials explained their decision to notify Congress only after the detainees were being turned over to Qatari diplomats by saying Obama was acting in his capacity as commander in chief.

“This is a case of the commander in chief exercising his prerogative to get one of his soldiers back,” one official said. He asked not to be identified because he was not authorized to address the issue publicly.

I don't see this move making it safer for our military or civilians around the world.

This is all an excuse to release terrorists. It has nothing to do with getting Bowe Bergdahl back. This administration is just using that as an excuse to support once again enemies of the US.
