Before it became The NBC Nightly News, it was The Huntley-Brinkley Report, and its signature closing was, Good night, Chet. Good night, David. It became the butt of late-night comics jokes, although without a gay connotation. (Such things were not thought of in those days, much less spoken of.)
The network went with Beethoven as the theme, using a fragment of the second movement, the Scherzo, of the Ninth Symphony
