HATTIESBURG, Mississippi Sen. Thad Cochran (R-MS) provided a new explanation for his refusal to debate his primary challenger that is sure to give fodder to critics who say that after six terms he feels entitled to his seat.
This is not a debating society, Cochran said explaining his decision not to debate McDaniel. This is a race for the United States Senate.
Cochran went on to say the voters of Mississippi will decide who wins. The people are going to decide who wins the race, he said. Nothing that I can say is going to make much of a difference. Its too late in the campaign. Most everyone has made up their minds.
Im looking forward to celebrating a victory on election night, Cochran added.
This remarks are the latest Cochran has provided regarding why he won't debate McDaniel. First, he and his campaign would not respond when asked why they wont debate. Second, in late April, Cochran told the Associated Press he wont debate McDaniel because hes trying to make me look bad. Third, in mid-May, Cochran spokesman Jordan Russell told reporterswhile appearing in Cochrans place at a press conference that McDaniel had on the Mississippi State Capitol steps in Jacksonthat Cochran wont debate because McDaniel, in his words, is a liar.
Why would we put Sen. Cochran on stage with a liar? Russell said then. Were just not going to do that. Were not going to dignify that.
Those are really strong words, McDaniel said after returning to the stage to rebut Russell. Sen. Cochran is supposed to be a 42-year incumbent whos a gentleman. Im shocked that his staff would behave like that.

Do you know who was doing the polling? Has there been any underground leaks of what the
polls are showing? At this stage I’d believe most have made up their minds as how to vote.
YOU ARE ABSOLUTELY THE VERY BEST!!!!
Wow!
Seniors vote and Seniors talk!
God bless you, dearest houeto!!!!
Yes, one was Freedom Works.
Two were from or hired by the Cochran campaign because I could detect that fact, from the wording of the questions.
The 4th was from a media outlet.
Thanks I saw a United Fund Poll last week that had McDaniel up by 3% over Cochran with
Carey at 3% and 12% undecided. Hopefully it won’t be that close. Do you need a 50% +1
to win or does the largest vote getter win without a runoff if it’s under 50%?
“I can barely wait to VOTE FOR Chris McDaniel.”
I’m very excited for you. What’s the feel there. Do you think McDaniel will pull it out?
I went and looked up the requirement. It takes a majority to win otherwise the top two go to a runoff.
Here is a listing of all the candidates for Tuesday in MS if anyone is interested.

No America is not, but the United States Senate has, since its inception, been considered to be precisely that. That is why it was so outrageous when Harry Reid & other Obamanists resumed the war on unlimited debate.
