Let's dispense with the notion that criticism of the president's rudderless foreign policy at home is based on political animosity, or, as some Democrats charge, racism.
The fact is, it's America's closest allies that have viewed with increasing alarm Barack Obama's timidity and indecisiveness overseas as cause for fear and worry.
The Financial Times - no friend of conservatives to be sure - summarizes the dilemma of our allies:
Mr Obama’s election in 2008 reflected a widespread belief at home and abroad that there was “too much America” in the world. Although he still seems to be in tune with the US public, Mr Obama faces the accusation that there is now too little.
Even John Kerry, his secretary of state, appeared to acknowledge this international perception in a speech last week. “We cannot allow a hangover from the excessive interventionism of the last decade to lead now to an excess of isolationism,” he told students at Yale. “Most of the rest of the world doesn’t lie awake at night worrying about America’s presence – they worry about what would happen in our absence.”

John Kerry, he gets it right ... once every 50 years.
No. The closest allies are mostly white, aren't they? It's just their racism. Simple.
That was so well said I am at a loss for words. Well done.
The problem is that Foolsucka doesn’t know what to do when his Chicago thug tactics don’t work on the world stage, because his skills are amateur compared to who he’s dealing with. He’s in over his head.
“Leading from behind” is a simple oxymoron. With accent on “moron”.
Kind of like shoving a wet noodle up a wildcat’s rectal orifice.
Not likely to keep the wildcat’s compliance for long.
Guess it depends on who he's dancing with.
Yeah, fear and worry that they may actually have to spend on their own defense and take stands on issues they'd rather not chance upsetting someone over.
My theory is that Obama is HAPPY to be labeled a weakling in foreign policy.
Unlike most (all?) past occupants of the office he has seized, HE is not interested in ENHANCING our strength or reputation but DIMINISHING our standing. He has an ego to be sure, but he does NOT consider insults on this front to be damaging, since this has been his design from the beginning.
Consider how much Frank Marshall Davis apparently HATED this country. Little BO was conditioned to do his utmost to PUNISH these United States in whatever way possible. So, if that means:
irresponsible rules of engagement for our troops,
keeping us dependent on foreign oil,
wasting taxpayer money on fantasy energy projects,
letting Iran have a drone,
endorsing a mosque near Ground Zero,
opening up the borders near Mexico despite law enforcement’s pleas,
or ANYTHING ELSE that weakens our stature in the eyes of our allies and enemies, OBAMA IS WILLING AND HAPPY TO DO IT.
He is willing to take the criticism because he knows in the long run it will be more difficult for a future patriotic President to convince skeptical foreign governments that the USA will keep her promises. They will have, in the back of their minds, the possibility of an untrustworthy Obama coming back into power.
This weakens America’s hand, which is Obama’s overall goal.
Agreed. He was coronated to read a teleprompter and fundraise. Definitly not to lead.
