Mother Outraged After 9-Year-Old Daughter Sent Home From School With Note Calling Her Overweight
May 23, 2014 11:30 AM
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - One Staten Island mother found a message sent from her daughters school hard to swallow.
Gwendolyn Williams, 9, brought home a fitness-gram from PS 29 this week.
Her mother Laura Williams told 1010 WINS Gwen was upset because the message said that, according to her body mass index, she was overweight.
Gwendolyn is 41″ and weighs just 66 pounds.
Shes not overweight, Laura Williams told 1010 WINS. Shes healthy. Shes active. She plays softball, she plays outside with her friends, so it was ludicrous to read that.
What really concerned me is that then she started asking questions about, you know, she touched her thigh, and she said Is this what they mean? And I said Gwen, no, everybodys thigh jiggles like that, Williams said. It just really disturbed me on a deep level.
The Department of Education is defending the fitness-grams as a way to help students develop personal goals for lifelong health. The messages are carried home to parents by the students. Apparently, Gwendolyn took a peek at the contents of her message.

5'6" and 160 lbs is Overweight.
5'9" and 170 lbs is Overweight.
6'0" and 190 lbs is Overweight.
6'3" and 200 lbs is Overweight.

According to the BMI chart, at 6'8" and 250 lbs, Lebron James is on the high side of Overweight... the #1 basketball player in the world is closer to "OBESE" (270) than he is to "Normal Weight" (220).

Actually, “Normal” for 6’8” is 170-220... BronBron needs to get down to 195 to be in the middle of “Normal”. He’s 55 lbs over. SMH

Until we get rid of this socialist obomacrap a/k/a ACA, we are going to have to refuse, delay, deny, obstruct in any way we can any and all attempts by this socialist govt. to deny us our freedoms, our rights as parents. We KNOW what the left demands that we do. It will be up to US to devise ways to circumvent the left. Freedom fighters of WWII devised many ways to stop the enemy. This is NOT the time to say, “oh well, ACA says we can't do this or that. It IS time to devise ways to do otherwise. Didn't say it would be easy, or that we'll achieve our goals quickly, but instead of more talk, we need to be involved in more action.

Ill say. My daughter is a ballerina. All muscle very little fat. Wears a size 2. Last time she went to Dr (she is a full grown adult now) she was told her BMI was a bit high!!!!
I wish I could wear a size 2 and dance the way she does.... BMI breaks down on both ends of the scale. You have to use common sense.

LOL you just insist on demonstrating your ignorance and how big of an ass you are don’t you.
I raised two kids from gradeschool through high school in homeschool. One is in pre-med now and the other is close to starting college.
People pay taxes. Public schools are funded by taxes. Just like roads and too many other things.

She's cute, healthy looking and doesn't have any more weight than a child needs for the next growth spurt. If I were her parent, I'd worry if she were any thinner.
Parents should be concerned that supposed educators have become legal perverts getting involved in issues that belong with the parents and health professionals.

Then what are you pissing and moaning about? If your kids aren’t in the government schools, why are you so worried about that welfare system?
