According to a report from the BBC, gay rights activist Harvey Milk has been honored on a new U.S. postage stamp. The stamp was unveiled at the White House on Thursday.
In a description of the stamp, the U.S. Postal Service says that Milk was elected to the San Francisco Board of Supervisors in 1977, making him one of the first openly gay elected officials in the United States. Tragically, his career in public office was cut short when he and San Francisco Mayor George Moscone were assassinated.
The photo featured on the stamp is one of Milk taken in front of his camera store in San Francisco. The colors of the gay pride flag can be seen in a vertical strip in the top left corner.

The best insult I can think of when asked about Harvey Milk is to simply say "Who?"

Hahaha ... I’m going to try and remember to ask that next time I’m buying stamps at the P.O.

Why does he deserve a stamp? (he doesn’t. it’s to gain the favor of a priviliged few)

Every time I read Harvey Milk, for some reason I think Harvey Mudd. I cannot get rid of the association.

This is sick. There are folks out there who are truly deserving of getting their pic on a stamp, but this ain’t one of them.

And no one will discuss how he supported and defended the phony “Rev” Jim Jones, who killed 900 of his followers in Guyana. “My name is cut into stone in support of youand your people.”

Actually, the killer was a fellow democrat and the conflict was over political issues, not sexuality. Ive read that Milk was just in the line of fire, as another city politician was killed in the same rampage. he and Mayor Moscone were killed by Dan White... this was the best thing that ever happened to Dianne Feinstein, as she then became Mayor of SF... her bridge to the Senate... Dan White served little time having used "THE TWINKIE DEFENSE." remember that? i think he did five years, and shortly upon release committed suicide by carbon monoxide poisoning in his car...

A few more years of Obama and he might just get one.

The joke at the time was that Danny White was sent by his mama to the grocery store to get milk and baloney.
Instead, he went to city hall and got Milk and Muscone.

The joke at the time was that Danny White was sent by his mama to the grocery store to get milk and baloney. Then he replaced Roger Staubach as quarterback for the Cowboys.
