The Associated Press reports:
More than half of female Marines in boot camp can't do three pullups, the minimum standard that was supposed to take effect with the new year, prompting the Marine Corps to delay the requirement, part of the process of equalizing physical standards to integrate women into combat jobs.
The delay rekindled sharp debate in the military on the question of whether women have the physical strength for some military jobs, as service branches move toward opening thousands of combat roles to them in 2016.

Nothing.
Also, the "women give birth" thing. I'm not sure how much "strength" that really shows. Honestly, labor begins and it does not stop until you are done. And, man, I really recommend an epidural for it. (Yes, I admit that pain and I are not friends, my first child took 22 hours of labor, and I needed drugs.)
Before reacting to the excerpt, y’all might want to read the whole article.
Her position actually makes a lot of sense.
Do you agree with her closing statement? (I’d post it, but this is the AP)
Absolutely.
How so?
I’m a bit over-tired, but still..
She wasn’t the hero the Army claimed, but she certainly wasn’t the “f%ck up” you say she was. She was seriously injured in the HMMWV crash and was never in any position to affect the outcome of the firefight.
I see 5’2”, 120 lb women beat up 6’2”, 220 lb guys in the movies all the time . . . so they must be able to do it in real life.
hehe
5’2” and 120 pounds is pretty chunky for the movies.
There is a specific reason that military personnel achieve certain physical and operational standards - and that is if they have to drag or carry wounded comrades off the front lines during a fire fight, or stand and fight to protect their buddies..
I would welcome anyone [man or woman] who satisfied all of the requirements - as my well being might well depend on them. But, I would not welcome anyone who couldn’t cut the mustard ...
So if you are not quite strong enough to make it in the male Marines all you need to do is claim to be a transexual (a woman trapped in a male body) and you not only get to bunk with the women (you can be a lesbian these days), but you can graduate first in your class even if you are a 98 pound weakling.
That’s how they’ll create the first all female combat unit. Three actual women and the rest cross-dressing men.
“Look how well they performed!!!”
Freegards
Read the article, folks -- it's not long at all and it doesn't say what you assume. The excerpted quote was out of context, and Ms. Hemingway actually makes excellent, common sense arguments. For example:
"The problem is that we are all supposed to pretend that men and women are identical. It doesnt help men, women, children or the institutions they inhabit to pretend natural differences dont exist. And here, its actually dangerous. We may have forgotten in our rush to drone warfare what actual combat entails. Its grueling and requires tremendous physical and mental strength and discipline."
And this one:
"The Associated Press then goes on to characterize the truth that pullups require the muscular strength necessary to perform common military tasks such as scaling a wall, climbing up a rope or lifting and carrying heavy munitions simply as a belief held by the Marine Corps. I wonder where they got that crazy idea. I mean, I cant scale a wall or climb a rope but Ive noticed that everyone at my gym who can do these things can also do a pullup. Or 20 pullups. One can read these statements and the backtracking on pullup requirements as a precursor to watering down the skills required to be effective in a Marine combat situation."
Good for her!
All they need to solve this problem is to reduce required pullups for men. With more fat unfit males in force, equal results guaranteed. It would make libs happy. And enemies would propably die laughing.
Read it all an d it liberal screed. You can’t point exactly the position she takes. It is feel good nonsense and contrary to her deflecting strength it’s simple...the strength qualifications for makes are set in stone. If you can’t back it your out. Her closing statement too was nonsensical hog wash. It’s like comparing apples to bananas. Take a position...strength in combat are X qualifications...either the writer clearly takes a position that females can meet the Marine Corps strength qualifications or not.
I always appreciate the images you display with the fund raising posts in the middle of threads.
You have a good feel for finding an image that accents the thread very well.
I’m not kidding. That animated gif of the woman throwing the ball with Obama’s face pasted in on another thread today is what really made me realize that!
Good Job!
I joined in 1974, retired in 2008 and spent the next four years in Afghanistan with the Marines at Regional Command Southwest; Never, in my 40 year association have female Marines performed the same physical fitness requirements as men.
Females have zero business being employed with Ground Combat units.
Political correctness will destroy the armed forces,
I thank you very much!!
I watch low-budget stuff on the Sci-Fi channel and they can only afford the chunky actresses
