An alert reader emailed TTAG central with news that Armatix GmbH - makers of the iP1 “smart gun” – filed a patent application that included a remote kill switch for the firearm. Click here to view patent EP 1936572 A1, dated 2006. (Not a bug; a feature!) I’m not a patent attorney or an electrical engineer, but as far as I can tell this is the bit (translated from the original German) that indicates remote disabling . . .

Before the Tragic Boating Accident, the universal kill switches on mine were called the triggers.

ROFLMAO! Yeah, I agree 100% about the triggers.

And you too? Man, those boats are deadly to firearms. All of mine sank in about 5,000 feet of ocean. It was tragic.

If this worthless piece of trash is mandated, I’d bet there will be plans on the Internet to convert it to a real firearm before it even hits the stores. I consider the cost of disabling the SmartGun feature to be part of the cost of buying one of these - and only if no real firearms can legally be sold.

Gosh, what a surprise. “You can keep and bear arms, sure, but you can’t shoot them without permission.” There are, as of 2009, some 310 million firearms in the United States. There are certain prohibitionists who think if they get the right laws passed they’ll all be turned in. They’ll be used before that happens.

And of course it will be a severly punished federal felony to tamper with or render obsolete the technology.

So many of us FReepers have suffered these Tragedies, it’s obvious we should get rid of all our boats or our nearest relatives should impose immediate guardianships on us. Incredible what horrible boaters we are.

>>> A government that can remotely shut down your electric ,power, water, communications, and firearms is the dream of socialists everywhere.

And your car. Don’t forget your car. That technology has already been invented - the version that works in coordination with OnStar once the owner reports it stolen - but TPTB haven’t yet managed to require this “feature” on all new models of cars. Don’t worry; I’m sure once it’s added onto every newly manufactured vehicle, costs will come down. And you need never worry about hackers. They’re already against the law. Nor will law enforcement agencies or government regulatory beaurocrats ever abuse the ability to point a remote control at your auto or the one next to you or in front of you, and shut off its engine. Not in the absense of eminent need to save human life. These people only are our friends and are here to help us. Why do you call them socialists like it’s a bad thing? What could possibly be wrong about that, Citizen?

Sssshhhhhhhhh!

The next thing you know, some DWEEB in the Administration will demand Boat Control. First comes registration... Oh wait ... that's already in force...

Next there will be mandatory training before you can take control of a "big boat," Wait... wait... that's already done...

There's nothing left for our Nanny gubmint to do but to come confiscate our dangerous boats for the greater public good. They already know where they are and the owners are already licensed, so Big Brother will know where they're located ....
