Jeb Bush praises Lyndon B. Johnson: ‘He did what leaders do’
The Washington Times ^ | May 15, 2014 | Jessica Chasmar

Jeb Bush hasn’t announced whether he’s decided to run for president in 2016, but the former Florida governor has promised that if he does he will strive to govern like former Democratic President Lyndon B. Johnson. Speaking at Saint Leo University in San Antonio, Fla., the Republican praised Mr. Johnson last February, not for his “Great Society” programs that conservatives blame for significantly expanding the size and scope of the federal government, but for his forceful, hands-on leadership, The Miami Herald reported at the time.

Destroying urban America by creating a huge population of multi-generational governmental dependents?

And according to reported conversations, boasting about it as well!

I am trying to recall from memory, but I believe that the ACU rated JFK as having only voted with Conservatives in the Senate 12% of the time, before the 1960 election; but LBJ, the supposed Conservative on the ticket--basically because he was an expert at talking out of both sides of his mouth--had only voted Conservative 11% of the time!!

Those looking for campaign material to use against Jeb, might try to find a copy of the paper back from that era, "A Texan Looks At Lyndon." LBJ was far more corrupt than just your typical Left leaning demagogue.

LBJ has got to be one of the worst presidents we ever had. Maybe not Carter/Obama bad, but bad. I can still see/hear his tired speeches which always started with, “My fellow Americans, I come to you tonight with heavy heart. . .” Usually announcing some new disaster either he or his polices brought on.

Heck, we could say that Hitler was a strong leader, and he did what leaders do. Sheesh..........

You can’t admire someone for leadership, unless you also admire and approve of what they did.

LBJ literally stole his senate seat in TX against Stevenson then had JFK killed so he could bury the investigation into all his corruption and dealings with Billy Sol Estes.
Then as POTUS he expanded the scope and power of the federal government in ways FDR could only have dreamed of.
Yea he was easily the worst President before the current one.

RE: 28

I liked "W".
I admit that he championed some policies that were truly awful: Amnesty, Big Government 'Compassionate Conservatism' malarkey. He would have made a fine Democrat candidate - and would have fit in well with the 1960s versions of the Democrats that were for big Government, but weren't rabid anti-USA.
"W", for his shortcomings, was better than the spew-worthy competition (Gore and Lurch), and his successor (the marxist atheist international man of mystery that currently resides in the White House - or at nearby golf courses).

I am old enough to remember LBJ’s era. he governed by intimidation and dirty tricks. Jeb, before making stupid comments like this, you might want to have your father give you some history lessons.

Gore had a mental breakdown at Harvard, so imagine his mental issues with the pressure of being a President. The man could not handle being a leftist professor. My gosh he has gone overboard with everything, and would have given the terrorist the USA on 9/11....

I think Bush was there specifically for 9/11. Our response with his aggressiveness slowed down a lot of terrorist groups. Just look at how much ground has been gained under Obama for our enemies, and so quickly. Not to mention zero has lost all of the gain in Iraq, and Afghanistan will be no different.

He isn't the first major personality in the Republican party to say something completely asinine in recent months.

The GOP is rushing headlong in becoming just as insane as the Democrats.

Apparently Jeb wants to say he admires LBJ's tactics, but not his policy.

That doesn't fly. It reminds me of what South Vietnamese leader General Ky told a London newspaper in 1965:

"People ask me who my heroes are. I have only one-Hitler. I admire Hitler because he pulled his country together when it was in a terrible state."
