Shut up and play? No, Michael Sam should do it the way Tim Tebow did

Jackie Robinson is the blueprint, or at least that's what so many seem to believe. It certainly wouldn't be a bad example for Michael Sam to follow. Robinson broke MLB's color barrier by putting his head down and competing. He won over critics by winning games for the Brooklyn Dodgers. Just shut up and play. Jackie Robinson is an undeniable American hero for what he did. How he accomplished it was his choice. For him and his day, it was perfect. That day, though, was 1947. The suggestion Michael Sam – as he reported for duty in St. Louis on Tuesday as the first openly gay player in NFL history – needs to follow that lead, nearly seven decades later, is ridiculous. Just shut up and play? That suggests he must still be a prisoner to the bigots among us. It means he needs to avoid stepping on offended and uncomfortable toes while smashing down walls that no reasonable person believes should be standing. "I'm determined to be great," Sam said Tuesday at a news conference in St. Louis with the other Rams draft picks. "I want to train hard and try to make the team. All my focus is on trying to make the team." Maybe Sam will be like Robinson. Maybe that's the path he'll follow. It's his choice, though. It certainly isn't about the comfort level of those who believe their personal comfort is of any importance.

Just like the Brooklyn Nets are stuck with the other homo who gets no playing time. He will quietly fade into history once they get sent fishing by the Heat, who I can’t stand.

Nah, he’ll take up a roster spot and that would create dissension in the ranks. I say he’ll play in one regular season game and if he sucks, which he will, then the bench.

If the other guys in his position are better, he’s in trouble.

I will admit, I think they’d love to see him play for a game or two. Not sure that will happen.

If he gets replaced after a game or two, it’s going to be so transparent what they did.

He was second to last pick so unless he has homo power I don’t see him getting any minutes. That homo sh!t won’t fly when they start losing. They fire winning coaches so a poofter is a speed bump to them.

Well, that makes sense to me. We’ll see how rabid the press is on forcing him into a playing situation.

The guy could get seriously hurt if he’s not up to snuff.

If he was that low on the draft, what’s that tell you about his true ability? Heck he could have been 50 places off eligibility.

That could put him on the field with first round draft picks, and get him a quick ride to the local medical center about one minute into the first quarter.

LOL< Don’t you think some of those guys are relishing the moment they get to tee off? This guy really bit off a lot. I don’t want to see harm come to him, but this is a dangerous sport, and the only reason more people don’t get hurt, is because those on the playing field are each at the top of their game.

Comparatively, this guy doesn’t have a prayer of achieving that status. He’s actually being set up. He may get hurt bad. It’s not something I care to see, but folks have managed to get him in over his head, and it may cost him.

Considering so many homosexuals worship the anus, it would probably be something like bending over.

The biggest question I have had from day one was, what about tackle pileups? How ticketed off do players get, if something gets grabbed in the pile, and little ol’ same is there?
