Two teams of scientists say the long-feared collapse of the West Antarctic Ice Sheet has begun, kicking off what they say will be a centuries-long, "unstoppable" process that could raise sea levels by as much as 15 feet.
"There's been a lot of speculation about the stability of marine ice sheets, and many scientists suspected that this kind of behavior is under way," Ian Joughin, a glaciologist at the University of Washington in Seattle, said in a news release about one of the studies published Monday. "This study provides a more qualitative idea of the rates at which the collapse could take place."
The findings from Joughin and his colleagues, appearing in the journal Science, indicate that in some places, Antarctica's Thwaites Glacier is losing tens of feet, or several meters, of ice elevation every year.

Is this floating ice? If it is, has anyone heard of displacement? Or are they not teaching basic scientific principles in college anymore?

But the Antarctic ice is thickening on land, which means that water is actually being removed from the oceans to do that.

There is no melting happening. The thickening is due to the continual cooling there, with increasing precipitation.
There is no “science” involved, unless you consider propaganda to be science. When the increasing ice gets heavy enough to slide toward the ocean, it evens up the balance sheet.

That only happens because more ice is being added to the sheet. When it breaks off the ocean gets its lost water back.

No, that comes from the atmosphere. It’s not a wick.

I don’t think human industry is causing the volcanos under the ice sheets ...

Now Jack is the assertion that ice takes up less space than water hard, statistical science or just consensus? Consensus is all that matters. Science and logic be damned.

“Ice sheets collapse only when they become too massive to remain attached to land.”
Have you considered the possibility that ice could cause the Antarctic to capsize?
If Guam could capsize, .......
You are aware that a real, live CongressCritter authored the Guam Capsize Theory, aren’t you?
What more authoritative source could be imagined?

If inland water that has been frozen migrates to the ocean or to ice that is floating on the ocean, then it could lift the ocean. Ice shelves are already floating, however.
Just about an hour ago I added four ice cubes to my glass of bourbon. They melted and my glass didn't over flow.
Imagine that!

From the article:
The loss of ice that is floating on the seas surrounding the continent would not contribute significantly to sea level rise. The truth of the matter is that ice floating on the sea would not contribute AT ALL to sea level rise. If they can't be honest about such an insignificant statement, then how can they be trusted with those that really matter?
