Cable TV's sports costs are prompting a growing number of people to "cut the cord".
Exhibit A: The $8 billion charged by the Dodgers for broadcast rights to their games knowing full well that pay-TV companies would have to pass along this sky-high cost to all customers.
Time Warner Cable is the Dodgers' partner in crime. It paid that whopping sum for exclusive rights to distribute the Dodgers channel to other pay-TV companies, assuming, like the team, that it would get away with sticking both fans and non-fans with an extra $4 to $5 fee every month.
The harsh reality, however, is that most Southern California pay-TV customers already are forking out big bucks for local sports that they may never watch.

People like Ted Turner do not need any of my money.
Quite a bit of what Cable/Dish TV does supports pornography and immorality. So count me out in supporting that cr@p.
The sex is somewhat explicit on cable.
But you can lock kids out of watching popular shows intended for adults through parental management on your cable TV box.
I started to look into Roku a couple years ago, found it more confusing. Maybe need to revisit that whole idea. Thanks.
Me too, but it's been worthless. The do not call list is a huge national joke. They made a law that seems to have absolutely no enforcement.
My kids are sorting out what to do. With the latest cable bill increase, they are looking at $171/month, for TV and internet, no phone service. I think they have 2 “boxes”, and one movie channel, but not really much for bells and whistles.
I think ours (cable TV only) has increased a good 80% in the past 6 or 7 years. It is ridiculous.
The cable TV company is a monopoly. They have no incentive to provide good service at a fair price when they corner the market.
On the other hand, they don’t force you to be with them.
I am trying to get internet for a new place in NC so I can stream movies.
Local tv stations are fine and I don’t need a landline.
I cannot believe how Time Warner hard sells me the services I don’t want - cable and home phone service. I finally agreed - to the tune of about $100/month- only to find out the internet they signed me up for wouldn’t be good to stream movies. I canceled everything so now I have to start over and find an internet provider.
I don’t want a satellite dish on the balcony.
Does anyone have any suggestions?

Why would you when you can watch EVERYTHING on streaming vid from .eu website?
No one in our family watches sports, but we had to buy 100 ESPNs to get the premium cartoon channels, like Nicktoons and Boomerang. We also like the History, Discovery, Military channel stuff, but no sports. So we cut the cable cord. Most of our fave shows are on Netflix, including The Bible miniseries, military stuff, history and discovery stuff, breaking bad, the clone wars, etc. We watch what we want when we want, with no commercials. Oh, and we are saving money.
Your local phone company can sell you an Internet-only package. With a decent broadband speed you can watch movies for free online or for an a la carte cost on sites like Amazon. And it will be far less than what the cable company charges for their standard package.
The networks bundle their offerings to the cable companies. The cable companies are not free to unbundle.
Without satellite service all you can get here is a blue screen flashing ...no signal...
Once the networks went digital it died. There are no stations close enough.
I noticed that before Obama, the DO Not Call List seemed to work for me and mine. Now, it is a free for all. Calls constantly.
He’s paying about $50/month for internet, another $50 for phone, then $128 for cable.
I just have internet and cable and its $125 per month. (Comcast in Houston). I get about 25Mb down and 3Mb up. That’s their normal speed. You can spend more for faster.
I don’t lease any equipment from there - no cable boxes or cable modems..

The Roman ruling class manipulated the rabble by giving them bread and violent entertainment in the arenas. Things haven’t changed.
I don’t understand what’s so hard about treating baseball games like big boxing matches: Pay Per View.
Just charge $20 for a single game, and give discounts to folks who commit to buying more games. Buy the whole season? Less than $5 a game. Want to buy just a three-game series against the Giants? $50. Etc.
But no: They have to try to force EVERYONE to pay.

But then the homo networks, and all the homo shows on cable networks who don’t draw enough viewers to support themselves would die off with out the welfare.
